SBD is still over priced, one crazy idea to deal with that.

Hello Steemit,

As you probably know, the Steem Based Dollar is still overvalued. As of this writing, it's around 1.49 usd. I think this is a good thing, and it seems like it should be an opportunity.

One way to capitalize on this is to make the normal 50/50 posts. Don't you want to get half of your post rewards in nice juicy fatter-than-usual dollars? And this will help generate the dollars we need.

But I also had another crazy idea.

Witnesses, lets jack up the interest rate! 5%! 10% even!

What? Neoxian are you crazy?

Increasing the interest rate would make the steem dollars even more valuable and people would be scooping them up, and the SBD could spike to 5$, 10$..who knows? But but..this is the opposite of what we want? Right?

But think of this, the steem dollar spiking up so much would have these effects:

  • It would attract money and attention to the Steemit platform. Investors would pour money into the system, and that's good! At some of these investors might check out the forum as well, and perhaps power up a bit.

  • The interest rate would create more dollars. Steem dollars are in demand, so we need to satisfy this demand by printing more of them!

  • A very valuable Steem dollar would help make posts receive even more money. Imagine if your 50/50 post made 10$. You'd get 5 Steem dollars and 5$ worth of steem power. But if one SBD is worth 10$, then your 5$ is really 50$! wow

Once all these dollars start flooding the system and people cash them out, then the price will start to lower again. When this happens, the witnesses can reduce the interest rate. At this point, many investors may simply sell their dollars, but I think some would just power them up.

That what happened with me. Back when the interest rate was at a crazy 10%, I purchased 4000 Steem Dollars. I wanted to collect 400$ a year from that tasty interest. But when the interest waned and fell below 3%, I just decided to exchange them for Steem and power it up.

What do you think? Pretty nutty idea, and there's probably some good idea why it wouldn't work, which I'm sure you'll tell me below.

I switched to 50/50 posts, but I post erratically and generally earn cents.

Downside to that is that it only takes effect 7 days later.

sbd is worthless when the price of steem is pumping, better off holding steem than trading sbd

There is benefit to SBD trading above $1.00, as you mentioned above - but there is harm as well. The main reason behind SBD was to provide a stable currency that merchants could use as a currency in their stores. If it ends up being a non-stable currency that goes up and down based on market fluctuation, then we might as well get rid of it and just stick with one currency - STEEM.

Yea, I understand what you are saying, but I just feel like we are missing a trick here. Right now the market is telling us that our Steem Dollars are really awesome and valuable. How do we take advantage of this? Is it just making 50/50 posts and sell dollars on the external exchanges?

I was just wondering if there was something the Steemit system could do to leverage this...

One idea that has been floated is being able to 'reverse convert' - to create STEEM out of SBD at the rate of "one dollar worth" - which would reduce the supply of STEEM and give converters a 50% gain under current conditions. With the current blockchain though, there is not really a good translation between SBD demand and STEEM demand. I wish there were more of a connection to drive up STEEM based on demand for SBD!

You know....

You do raise some interesting points.

I have wondered for awhile now, what the market is thinking WRT the high SBD value.

Wondering if it is attracting more people or attn to the platform or getting whaley types or others wondering or researching due to.....

INTEREST.

I know that is a bad pun there, but it fits right it.

Good post by you. This is why I wrote y-day on this topic and advised people to sell and note the differences on the exchanges, you were getting a huge premium all day y-day for SBD on Bittrex as opposed to Poloniex.

Have a good week my man

I sell my SBD. So good for me, I'm helping with the shortage???

If you sell for BTC or some other coin, not just for Steem, other wise there is no real external effect.

Yep, you are doing your part!

One of my all time favorites. :P

:D

I don't know who made that one, but it's the funniest meme I have seen on steemit in a while.

I agree! He must be a real genius the creator!

:D:D

LOL was it you?

LOL congrats on making the only meme I have ever seen about steemit that I felt was worth using that I didn't have to make myself. :)

Thanks xD

to be honest, not to be mean or anything, but looking at many of the ongoing steem-meme competitions, it feels like many users do them wrong somehow or don't fully understand how they are supposed to be done. xD

I recommend imgur to create memes, has the most classical ones ready. ^^

It's funny, but I've been doing 50/50 posts for a while now, and I had no idea why until I read this, haha. Seriously though, I'm really starting to accumlate, would you happen to know when a good time to turn them into steem would be?

Hmm, I turned my SBD into steem when the price of steem was pretty low and the interest rate was low. It might be a good idea to sell them on an external exchange right now.

It's a thought. Or would I be better off just holding onto it for a bit? If you wanted to take a peek at my wallet, you might have a better idea what I should do. Only if you get a chance, no pressure :)

Hmm, I took a look. It's up to you really, if you want your votes to be worth more, then you could power up the dollars, or you could just hang on to them in case you want to pay another steemian, or you give it out as prize money for a contest, or to reward people you like.

It's a tough descision. I am currently trying to give out a few of them ;) I guess I'll wait a bit, though I think I'll go back to 100 percent posts for a bit.

Beginning of 2018 Headlines.

Steem Dollars beat Steem to ATH 5 $ price.

What! Are you saying you want to manipulate the market? ;D

Resteem!!!
