FIELD WORK TOPIC:
A study of the relationship between the physical environment and land-use types around st. mary’s boarding secondary school-Kitende in Wakiso district.
OBJECTIVES
To find out the varies physical features around st. mary’s boarding secondary school-kitende
To find out the land use activities around st. mary’s boarding secondary school-kitende
To identify the influence of human activities on the environment around st. mary’s boarding secondary school-kitende
To identify the problems facing the land use activities around st. mary’s boarding seconday school-kitende
To identify the solutions to the problems facing land use activities around st. mary’s boarding secondary school-kitende
To establish/measure the average area/length of kajjansi fish pounds in the north east of st. mary’s boarding secondary school-kitende
To identify future prospects of development around st. mary’s boarding secondary school-kitende
b. We organized to vary out field work by carrying out the pre-field study activities under such activities we held the following steps.
Step 1.
Our teachers Mr. Rwabyoma, Mr. Ssekalegga, Mr.Lubega carried out a pilot study around st. mary’s boarding school-kitende so as to access the geographicale viability of the area for field work ,to make contacts with the local population for example they informed the kitende local council chairman Mr. Besigye of our intention to visit his area.
Step 2.
From the pilot study, basing upon the knowledge gathered, we formulated a topic for the field work study. We formulated the following topic. “A study of the relationship between the physi8cal environment and land use types around st. mary’s boarding secondary school-kitende in wakiso district.
Step 3.
Basing on the knowledge gathered in the pilot study, we formulated objectives for the field work which are achievable and relevant to the topic. For example;
To identify the influence of human activities on the environment around st. mary’s boarding secondary school-kitende.
To identify the physical features around st. mary’s boarding secondary school-kitende .
Step 4.
Basing on the topic and the objectives, we formulated methods to be used in the collecting data from the field. For example Mugonza proposed to use observation. This refers to the naked eye to sort out geographical information from the field. The other steps we proposed are; Recording, interviewing, measurements and others.
Step 5.
We mobilized /organized research tools to be used in the field. For example kaliisa our chairperson was told to collect a measuring tape, binoculars, sample containers, base map of wakiso district from the school library to be used in measuring distances, observation, sampling and map orientation.
