I'll Try to Keep it Short and Sweet

No gimmicks, characters, jokes or flashy pictures this time. Just me, and my words.

I have not been a writer/artist/entertainer for very long. I started out here on Steemit. Anyone can have a look and see the difference between now and day one. I did not bring a following to help me. I started from the bottom and I'm working my way up.

I hear the plans, I read the gossip. For the most part, I'm well informed about what's going on in our neck of the woods. I remember the part about how important and beneficial it would be to this platform if our work managed to go viral. I'm sure some has been passed around. It's wise to use other platforms as they promote our work for free, while we get paid for producing it here.

Having an indicator that tells us how many views our articles receive was a very wise move. Have a look at your blogs. Go back a few weeks, a month, or more. Are any of your articles still alive?

I had a quick glance around the place, pulled up a few random articles from a few of the heavy hitters. I didn't dive very deep. I didn't see any views accumulating on anything I pulled up. There are so many out there though, you'd have to look for yourselves to get a better idea. I'm sure someone out there is still getting hits on their old stuff, I can't be the only one.

I had a look at my blog. I pulled up every single article and had a glance at the views. It's my understanding, these views must have occurred after the view feature was programmed and put into play. How long has that been? One week?

Here are a few examples of what is occurring on my blog. Pardon the crudeness of these images. I don't want anyone to think they've been doctored up. I've provided links as well. These were the views as of this writing. They will only increase.

Shelf Life

Have a look at the trending page on any given day. There are some very deserving bloggers doing well here. What they are offering to us and the rest of the world will stand the test of time. Then, we have a few that don't stand a chance. Fly by night style, only there for one day. By tomorrow, it's worthless, yet they do well.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not discrediting anyone for their efforts. What is there still takes time and energy to produce and I acknowledge that. Some of the typical posts seen on the trending page are also there for a good cause. You can view my wallet and see I take part in the sports bets as well. If I see a quarter on the ground, I'm the type to pick it up... and I'm not afraid to admit that.

At the same time though, I acknowledge the others. The hundreds of people who's rewards combined won't even come close to the top 20 for the day. I'm not complaining about what I'm given because I know people have my back. I also know I work hard for it and the proof is in the pudding.

If you're new here and wondering why your Facebook status update style posts or shared meme's that you did not create won't even earn a dime, have a look at my blog. I made that myself, everything including the art and I write my own jokes to boot. Look at the rewards. Now you know what to expect. I started here on September 20, 2016. You will not become rich overnight.

I'm Going Viral

There's no doubt about it. Look at the tags in those screenshots. What I produce here will stand the test of time. If I was going to offer advice to anyone, I would tell them to create something unique that will be just as relevant in ten years as it is today. Getting one million views takes time unless you have ten million followers.

I often hear people repeating something like, "All we need are a few famous people, and they will bring their following."

Their following isn't required to be a Steemit member to view the famous person's work here. That's something many people seem to overlook. A famous person comes along, the masses become star struck, vote heavily in favor of them... me, you, the famous person's following, what do we get? Many of the established types are exactly that, established. The top guns already make the money. Many have sponsorship commitments as well. They can't simply cut and run. Their followers are just that as well, they won't necessarily be your followers just because they are here.

We all have an opportunity to make each other the famous blogger, yet it seems some become envious over another members success. This is very common human behavior though. Just go to work and look around. Someone is always bitching about someone else. I used to be in management. I worked my way up the hard way. When I finally got what I worked so hard to achieve, people complained. I know why they're complaining though, so I shrug it off.

Would you hand over your success to someone who complained about you having it? If you find yourself complaining a lot, let that one sink in a bit.

We'll find success working as a team. We all have a vote. Whether the vote is manual or robotic, it's still a vote. The favoritism isn't teamwork though. We help ourselves in the short term by voting for the sure hits. More people follow the short term thought process, a few become successful, many fail and give up... and with that, all Steemit will have are a few bloggers and nobody to vote for them. Then, nothing.

The solution to our success is teamwork and forward thinking. Never mind right now. Invest in the future.

When you have a moment, have a look at the image where I received twelve cents. I'm not bothered by that. I'm happy these articles are getting passed around one month later. I will say, it takes time to go viral, but once it picks up steam there's no stopping it. All of those people will be entertained... all of them will see the value.

Use your votes wisely.

Most of my posts will be as relevant 10 years from now as today. But I don't see them getting more views - until we have a way to custom organize our posts. I have to take the perspective that today's numbers are just a benchmark to measure my progress. I'm sincerely glad to see your success here! Each of us has to find our own way here. And, like you say, if we approach it as a team, that's better for all of us.

There are many members who write up articles that will stand the test of time. Many of those articles have average to low rewards. I feel it's a shame that is the sort of legacy we'll leave behind.
I know a trick to help people get hits on their old stuff. Since people have helped me, I may just shed some light on it soon. I doubt I'm the only one who does it.

Hmmm. Whatever the trick is, it's working for you. Maybe the rest of us will get a clue sometime. : )

upvoted and followed.

Thank you.

You're welcome.

Your posts may in fact stand the test of time, and I do enjoy them myself, but the trick is - how to monetize them!

I'll create something interesting today, tomorrow, next month. I'll put it out there. Each piece is part of the puzzle, attracts a follower from here or the outside. If someone finds me because of something I made months ago, they may come along to vote. I may not get the money today, but each quality post that stays relevant far into the future is a quality investment which leads to monetizing my posts.

You know there is a lot of topics asking the question of how many people actually read instead of just post.

I will confess to doing both... say I catch a Steem-Sports post early enough,I upvote it... it pays, but I could care less about the contents.

But posts that interest me I read and comment on like this one.

On Facebook I will post a long article like one of my Yoga books chapters and within a second I get a like... they did not have the time to read anything, sometimes (and I kid you not),they could not have even looked closely at the picture... and the girl is dang cute!

But here at least you get some worth.. so I do not really mind.

But I really think we are so Facebook conditioned, this will take time to work out to where more people read and even interact with our old posts.

But I believe two main things; first Steemit is not social media, it is a community, (great topic for someone to expound on really). And second it is a living breathing entity living in the moment as the world of computers and internet is training us for new electronics and technology that is alive and instant.

Let's just roll with it.

I don't read the sports articles either. I quickly scroll, vote, gone. I'm sure some people find it interesting.

Facebook is a strange one. They call it social media but the people are rarely social. They'll comment under a news story, then bash each other for an hour, which is anti social. The entire conversation and article goes poof within hours, people are ready for the next one and the next new crowd of random people.

This community of ours is great but many want to push for segregation disguised as tag organization. Branching off into new tribes is human nature. It may not be a social network, but it is turning out to be an interesting social experiment.

You're right when you suggest to just roll with it. We can use history to see the future in some cases though.

I'm not sure how I missed this, but I'm glad you wrote that follow up. Definitely how? You're saying these upvotes are from outside of steemit? I am just starting to have a tiny grasp on the blockchain. And I spent a couple of hours learning about witnesses last night. I want to know everything that has to do with the future of this place, and the present of course. So...someone else copied your links and now it's out there on the web, is that the idea?

You're showing interest. This is good. What I do is nothing major and takes very little effort. If more people show interest, I'll write up an article. If only a few show interest, I'll explain individually. I'll keep you posted. I doubt I'm the only person who knows what I know, but I don't see the information getting passed around here.

Some of these views could be due to people sharing on their own, but I doubt that's the case, nobody ever mentions it to me.

Yeah, I thought about that after I said it, and since people are generally eager to let you know they upvoted every time, or resteemed, it's highly likely they would let you know if they passed it outside of here.

I;ve been trying to work up some interest in my past-the-voting-stage posts by making some wiki like links to previous posts in my new ones, but until the views thing came up I have no idea if it worked or not. I have a part two and part three with some possible links, but I haven't posted much lately because I've been sick. I'm willing to do anything professional to increase my readership after the votes don't matter.

I keep seeing your post in my feed and it's doing really well...and not a single question since I read it in the first place, there or here. I guess that's amusing, or a bit disheartening, maybe both. I mean there is no possible reason to upvote that post unless what it said made you curious, am I wrong? It doesn't even make sense unless people ask you what you're doing...am I missing something here?

The art is cool, I guess that could be the reason :)

I can't even begin to answer that. I appreciate the votes, they are helping me, I'm willing to help them... nobody speaks up. I can keep it to myself, it's not selfish if I've offered. If I just write out an article explaining, it falls off the face of the earth. Those who might be interested will miss out, I can't just keep writing it over and over again. My intention is find the interested people, they can speak up, I can prepare them or at least be able to send them a message when it's ready.

If this isn't their thing, I don't feel like wasting my time. I'll just do what I do, they can do what they do. That's no problem.

Well, you know I'm interested :)
