Steemit.com times out? Edit: It's back!

in steemit •  7 years ago  (edited)

Problem: I can't get access to steemit.com anymore; the connection times out (tried Firefox and Chrome on Windows and Opera on Android from several IP adresses).

Other sites (including busy.org) work fine, though busy.org gives a "This site can’t provide a secure connection" error in Chrome (but not in Firefox).

A DNS lookup of Steemit.com yields four IP adresses: 52.20.14.72, 34.228.95.92, 34.196.167.24, 52.203.198.162

The first address is very dead, it can't be accessed, pinged or reverse resolved into a name. The other three are Amazon AWS servers.

Any ideas?

Edit: Aaaand ... it's back. I only get "TypeError: Network request failed" or "Transaction broadcast error" when I try to do something, but it's back.

I’m using the eSteem app and can interact with the STEEM blockchain so that shows the decentralised strength of STEEM.
Could be another DDoS attack?

Something not working mainly shows that something is not working.

That’s true but there is always a reason or reasons. From what I have read there have been a number of DDoS attacks against Steemit.com in recent months and also growing pains of the increased user numbers could be a reason.
My point was mainly that being a decentralised blockchain based social network STEEM is resilient to these interruptions as it can be viewed and interacted with via multiple entry points @esteemapp, @busy.org, chainBB, @zappl etc

Very sad

Yeah ... now offline ... what's going on with Steemit?

I don't know. Could be anything from an external attack to a migration/update/load balancing experiment gone terribly wrong.

Hopefully they will have this site up again soon! The esteem app on my phone works just fine. So glad there are so many different ways for access!

Yes, but rather less happy you need so many different ways of access.

Yeah..but if steemit is under attack by hackers, it is certainly not their fault the site is having problems. I'm betting they are working hard to get it up and going again. And it so good to know our wallets are secure in the blockchain!

I strongly suspect hackers of the kind you mean have little to do with this, but, as always, I may be wrong 8-).

What ever is happening (at about the same time everyday) I hope they get it fixed soon!

It seems to be fixed now!

I can't connect to the servers, the website is down.

It's back up.

Beta, beta, beta :p

Not funny.

Well, maybe a little.

I have the same problem too

I'm having the same problem.

It's working again.

Having similar problems this morning. Even more troubling was that I was unable to even log into busy.org for a while-- getting a "no such user" error message.

I understand we're "in Beta" and all that good stuff, but it would be nice if someone were in charge of posting system updates to the Steemit twitter or even the Steemit Facebook page.

"Beta" is a lame excuse for experimenting with a live system without announcement. Sorry if my annoyance shines through there, nothing to do with you 8-).
