THE WAY UP - MAKE A CHOICE

In my undergraduate days, my Chancellor always hammered, "play today and pay tomorrow , or pay today and play tomorrow, the choice is yours". And every time he said this , it's full impact cut pervasively across the large body of students. I was made to understand something - that there were two pains in life; the pain of regret and the pain of discipline/ sacrifice with the former weighing tons and the letter a few ounces.

Discipline, i'll say is bringing oneself under a rule; becoming a law to oneself . The truth is one who can conquer himself can conquer world. it was Micheal Jordan who said that discipline is the willingness to do what others don't get. Ben Carson added that it is going the hard way to avoid the hard life.

After the studies, it is good to know that some of us are already on the right path to the top. It is disappointing however, to also see that a lot of us, might remain where we are, as the world passes us by like a quickly spun finger. The flight is on, and to come abroad, two things are involved - discipline and sacrifice.

Every one of us is a potential star, and there is really nothing magical about the way to the top, the only magic lies in these two gems. Discipline , i say is denial ; not all things that life offers are worth collecting in our treasure box. No ! The life we live is a function of choices we make. Discipline, when blended with sacrifice is sure to place anyone on the right path to the top.

The best in you can be showcased to the world if and if only you are willing to pay the price. The price, the ultimate price , is sacrifice. Till the , MY Chancellor's words echo in my ears, he says, every crown has a cost, champions are not made in the ring, they are only crowned in the ring, the actual road to championship is laced with piles of the fabric of discipline and sacrifice.

There is no star without a scar. Until you are stretched, the star in you cannot emerge, that stretch is what stands you out among the millions of graduate out there. A lot of us have got big dreams, and a note of caution , the quality of choices made today will determine how much discipline can be developed towards achieving those dreams.

I put it to you, mention the top shots in human history and i'll point you epitomes of background work; long hours of going the extra mile and days of daring to be different. Being different starts with the company you keep and the books you read ; because it is what you know and have that determines yours success' worth and keep.

The way to the top is not hoodwinkers, it is for those who can go knee deep into the quest for knowledge, as the first demand of sacrifice is quality investment in knowledge. So my dear compatriots, as we dare to produce a world loaded with stardom, let us do the right thing at the right time in the right way at the right place with the right people.
