Greetings, Friends
Welcome To the Beginning of the End
Well Maybe
Well friends, it was a good ride and fun while it lasted. Am I leaving? No way! As long as the lights are on, I will spam out my barely adequate pictures and spout out my ever changing and less than well thought out opinions. However, since our fearless leader Ned has decided to power down and as of this writing, failed to give even the slightest reason why, a person must think what is good for the goose must be good for the gander. I have never powered down a penny since I have started here, but this silence from Ned is not very confidence building. Now in the equity world when insiders like the CEO buy or sell a position, it is well noticed. I want to be in a stock where the CEO is buying more shares with his own money. I try but cannot think of a good way to spin this scenario with Ned. I mean why now? I know powering down does not equal selling, but why would you power down if not going to sell. If your intention was not to sell, then why not tell the community? Plus, why would you be selling at such a low price, unless you knew it was going lower???
Every end must have a beginning and maybe we are seeing the beginning of the end. While Ned has given us no idea why he is powering down, he did give us this wave goodbye as he finishes his day at the office yet might it be a subliminal wave goodbye as he starts his power down. I have no idea. This is just wild speculation at this point but is what happens when the leader of a community makes a drastic move without any explanation. Might it be a seemingly clever way to let us in on the inside joke, without saying anything?
I have been told time and again that the coin Steem is worth more than the site Steemit. To be honest, I never bought into that. It seemed to me an excuse to throw the development of making the site more user friendly under the bus. The entire time, the public could not get in the front door while users were streaming out the back door. The value of the site was never appreciated. Like I have said before look at Farcebook. The don't have a coin, but they do have a market capitalization on over half a TRILLION dollars. Yeah say that real slow...over 500 hundred billion dollars. No coin, just a site that works...
Power Down?
Have I started to power down? No, I have not pulled the trigger yet. I am hoping someone can give me a reason not to...

Don't do it!
It could be for any number of reasons most likely to fund other projects. If you post down it will be hard to get it back!

Well Boomy, if you can hold out, I guess I can too. You have a hell of a lot more to lose than I do. I really dont want to power down, I actually love it here, I just would run it differently. Many thanks for the input, my friend.

Perhaps he's anticipating a price spike 3 months from now, and wants to be able to sell into it. Maybe to fund some marketing for SMTs.

Well yes he may want to sell into it it in 3 months, or sell into the slide now. I don't think he will be funding anything but himself with his personal money though???

Or perhaps he just needs some cash. After all, he put quite some effort into building this wealth for himself.

Hi Paul, When I saw this title I thought. Hmm! Nice click bait lol
Just a reminder that this is not the first time @Ned has powered down and I'm pretty sure it won't be the last time either.
One of the benefits of steem is that it has a value determined by the market.
Maybe it is as simple as Ned wants to buy something or has a huge bill to pay. He is launching a whole new raft of steem based products after all. These are not free to develop or launch.
Powering down is not an issue at all. It can be done for a number of very good reasons. First and foremost. It's our token to do with as we wish.
I can understand your concerns but when @Dan moved on everyone was claiming that steemit was finished.
It's still here and proves what Dan said himself, that the actions of individual actors however important people may think they are to steemit, will have little effect overall on steemit or steem.
Dan built a robust system that cannot be destroyed by the act of any one individual. No matter what their stake is.
The market alone will decide the future of steemit and like every other cryptocurrency out there. It is feeling the effects of major push back from the banks and scammers wiping out peoples investments. It's still early days and things have a tendency to bounce around in any new tech.
Steem on @old-guy-photos and have a lovely weekend. I hope you are wrong but time alone will tell. Who would sell at this point in the market? That is just nuts. It would push the price even lower?

I hope you are right, after all, Steem can only fall another $1.38 lol. So do you really believe Ned would use personal money to finance any new deveopment? I dont.
I am starting to think that when @dan left, Steem was given a terminal diagnosis and we have been on the morphine drip in hospice ever since.
Apparently Ned
Be well, my friend.

I do hope you are wrong about this move but who knows.
All the cryptos are in the toilet right now.
I thought bitcoin was expensive at two grand so what do I know lol.
Bitcoin will go lower and because every other crypto including steem is primarily traded via that pairing we are in a bit of a pickle.
If people could see the benefit and speed of steem we would be sorted but that's not going to happen any time soon. The herd mentality rules and it's fruitless to try and buck the market...unless you are Rothschild? :)
Keep well buddy. Ride the storm.

Hmm, that is disconcerting news. Some things have felt off these past few weeks. Good to see you are continuing to post and enjoy the people here! Hope you are well, my friend!

I'm taking the Boommeister's approach on this end. Though I've not invested, so it is easier to lose, if it all goes gunny-bags. Not a loss of investment, just a loss of opportunity. And I'm in here for the long haul.
The writing aspect has been great for me, and the social end is as peachy as possible, so the earnings are nice, but not the only thing. And having some steem to play with, make some impact (minnow style) on the site, and to give back to people as votes, means a lot to me. I only wish I could grow faster for that reason. How fun would it be to vote people up at $20, Yee Haa?
I do think it would be harder to build up again, the old fashioned way, with hard work and just posting and interactions. Seems there are not very many folks on here 'in the middle' with 2000-3000 SP, at least that I see. Many folks must be powering down, and seems to me that doing so, would mean staying small for a long long time into the future. Just looks to me like it's hard to move up anymore. Oh, to be at least a Flipper....
I've still got a long way to swim, but I can dream. Just like hoping for a robot lawn mower that cuts three foot grass, on one battery charge, knows where to go to cut, avoids the cats, cleans it's own deck, then parks itself for the night. I can wish away, can't I? Thanks for the food for thought. Now I'm full, so off I go. I came, I read, I thought, I babbled, I left, and then I mowed the old fashioned way. Cheerio(s) Mon. Have a nice weekend on the water. Like THAT should be tough ( :

Oh I totally agree. I love to up you guys, you know my friends. I tell you it was so much fun when I had the 5000 delegation plus mine. Of course the coin was up and I had a total upvote of $3!! Oh to get close to that again!

Yeah, it's a hard decision, but I think staying in 'the game' here means being a bigger player, on the stuff that really matters. Though I certainly understand folks need for the money. I know I could use it, but I just want to stick it out and contribute as much as possible. That's why I signed up in the first place. Plus, to put out goofy posts. Yippee.

Ya....I get it.
Today, I tried to power down today and couldn't. All transfers are blocked too. I don't know why. I thought I was being hacked and tried to change my password. Can't do that either. @ocrdu wrote a post about it, but no one knows the why.

On a brighter note....your photos are fab. :)
I just tried to upvote you and it won't let me. ?? Weird.

You know how I said I tried to power down and it wouldn't let me? So the transaction didn't complete.....three hours later it did it all by itself. Guess I'm on the naughty list too?? lol.
The $ is low low today. Happy days will be here again. Even if not, at least you've met lots of cool people (ie moi) here....and even have met some in person which is very cool. No price on that kind of interaction.
Have a really fab weekend.

No, don't sell out now. Man I see a big stock crash coming and in that time cryptos will look good. How can you possiblely sell when Asia is looking at Steem as a coin. Remember last summer when Steem was going above a dollar then below a dollar then back again? I even wrote blog about it. We aren't even there yet. Hang in there Paul!

Very beautiful pictures!
There's nothing surprising about the price of STEEM. It tends to go up and down with the general crypto market.
Steemit Inc. has always been somewhat lacking in informing the public. Perhaps he needs the money for something personal. Maybe he is going to buy a house or something. Is this the first time he powers down?
I'd like to say one thing about Steem and steemit.com. First of all, Steem is not only a social media, it is also the data layer of many applications whose purpose is something else altogether than the Reddit copy steemit.com is. Apart from the already well-known there are some new ones like SteemHunt and Tasteem. Have your heard of Tasteem? It's a restaurant review app.
The Steem blockchain and its native cryptocurrency is at the heart of everything, not Steemit.

It does make you think, on the other hand he is the CEO and I don't think he needs to power down, I have no doubt he could pull out his money without us having to know, in fact just the fact that he can pull out half his stake in one week makes you see he can and does do thing differently than what we can. So I actually think he needs the money for some personal reason and it has nothing to do with Steemit imploding.
Of course maybe Steemit is doomed, but then wouldn't he have taken all out?

I read on one post someone who's been here since the beginning said that Ned always powers down when Steem hits a low point. If so, this is par the course.
I'm very much pro-crypto, but I think BTC has to fall a bit more, maybe even all the way to pre-bubble levels, and it may well carry Steem down with it a bit more. Strap in—the ride isn't over yet!
