STEEMIT VS MARK ZUCKERBERG : What Steemit must do to remain relevant

Days ago, a friend and mentor @samstickkz who has a vast knowledge on cryptocurrencies was giving me a brief on "Smart Media Token"

He made mention that steemit is about to sell her uniqueness to the public market.

He mentioned the fact that the "Safe Media Token" is aimed at sustaining the steem block chain and adding more value to steem.

This sounded nice but on remembering what happened to Blackberry Phones when the company sold their Blackberry Messenger to Google releasing the one thing that made them unique to the world. This knocked the company out of the Nigerian Market.

I can remember the days of BlackBerry phones when big boys and girls where defined by blackberry phones all because they had blackberry messenger.

The device was expensive so once you see anyone send you a DM on blackberry you automatically know he/she is a big boy for being able to purchase a BlackBerry phone.

When the company sold their messenger, cheaper andriod phones could access the messenger. This made blackberry phones loose the market as everyone believed having a BlackBerry messenger makes you a big boy/girl and not the phone.

Those who had the phones lost the love for blackberry phones. Rich girls were being asked out by broke boys using andriod. And this made both the Blackberry phone and messenger loose the market to andriod to Whatsapp, etc, respectively.

Back to steemit

If Mark zuckerberg is to get hold of the "Soft Media Token" to enable Facebook and Instagram users monetize his platforms.

What happened to black berry phones and messenger in the Nigerian Market might happen to steemit and Steem.

First things first, if Mark is to stick with steem and steem dollars as the cryptocurrencies on his platforms, there might be no cause for alarm. As this is expected to appreciate the value of these currencies.

But if the reverse happens...Steemit and steemit might go cripple...

Reasons being that

Mark and his platforms has already existing wide number of users. Steemit is still a baby...

Mark and his platforms has built a brand name over the years that wouldn't need meetups or reach out to convince its users.

Thus if Mark is to partner with other currencies or create his own currency other than steem and steem dollars, a lot harm will happen to steemit and steem

My Proposed Solution to avoid this

Let steemit witnesses and the Admins of this platform reconsider the "Smart Media Token". Let more encouragements be giving to those getting new users to this platform as their are no referall bonus.
Most people ain't willing to go through the stress of getting new users and guiding them through steemit.

Either a referral bonus reward be added on steemit to further popularize the platform and get more users or nothing.

Even if the "Smart Media Token" is made public and limited to Steem and steem backed dollars, am so sure many developers would be able to tweak it for other currencies.

I pray the right authorities look into this well enough to save our awesome community from crashing to Mark zuckerberg

You have a good point, compared to Facebook, Steemit is indeed a baby in the market. Though I think that's all the more reason for Steemit to create a method of outreach like this.

Right now there's nothing that stops Facebook or other major social networks from implementing a similar solution, including creating their own cryptocurrency. Just by creating Steemit and making it successful, we put a target on our backs for larger companies to follow suit and copy. This is something that Facebook did/does very successfully.

In addition to attracting bloggers and readers to Steemit, we'll also be able to reach out to new people and get the name out there. I see this as an overall solid move.

Thank you @dgatza

This post is actually a food for thought. We are safe if and only if Mark doesn't take steemit for himself. I believe Dan and his co-owner won't let this happen. Steemit has more potential than what dear Mark can offer.

Exactly. I just pray they address this

Nice piece. Kindly reciprocate the love

I can't start to imagine what would happen if your prediction comes true... i so pray it doesn't.
Steemit had introduced me to more info than Facebook has. Connecting with folks has never felt more natural.
I totally agree with you. Something has to be done...and drastically too.
Can't upvote this (cos my voting power is low), so I'll just resteem. More folks need to see this!
Thanks for this eye opener. Pray for Steemit...the writer's one hope of reaching the world!
