Exceeding bandwidth?

in steemit •  7 years ago  (edited)

I'm almost afraid to post, upvote, or comment on anything right now because this morning I wasn't allowed to do anything on this site at all because I apparently exceeded my bandwidth and would have to pay to do anything else on the site. This is a thing that happens regularly ? I wasn't posting a lot, nor upvoting a lot either. I had read an article saying that posting and upvoting too much decreases your value so I specifically have tried to limit what I do. I just don't understand this site very well. I can't afford to pay to use it.

Ah yes, I've experienced this before. I'm writing a post about it now to give some tips on how to get out of this bandwidth limit.

When I read this post, I went to your home page. I noticed you somehow manage to have more comments than votes. That is not right. Even in this post, there was a comment, but no vote!

I then checked your wallet. How did your balance get so low!? Have you been flagged?

I've given you a number of upvotes, but at 5c a vote, it will not help much - they will be more, I hope, of a psychological lifting of your spirits.

As for bandwidth, the rise in number of members has been too rapid and they are working on improving Steemit. However, you should not get any bandwidth limit messages. Some people make as many posts in a day as you have done in weeks!

I've placed a follow, so that I remember to return to check now and then.

Thank you so much for responding.

I'm still learning about all of the technical aspects of steemit. I don't understand the monetary aspects very much at all. I'm not sure how to know if I was flagged, but I don't think so. My posts have never earned much money, so I guess that's why my balance is low?

Today is the first day I've actually been able to claim a reward. I don't know how to actually get paid for that, though, in real life. Thank you for following me. I've done the same. : )

Here is how you check to see who upvoted you.

Before the name of the voter, you will see a + or a - sign. If you are flagged, you will see the minus sign ahead of the name of the person.

Try it out.

As for the money -don't worry, many of us still have questions. I'll try to provide a brief explanation:

  1. When you registered, you started with steempower of 25. That is not given to you, it is a loan (you do not have to pay it back if you lose it, but when your balance grows, it gets reduced).

  2. At the start, your upvote is worth less than 1 cent, especially after you have made a few upvotes. To see what your vote is worth, use this (it also shows you how long it will take your upvote to reach 100% of its max value):

  3. Votes by others: The lower their Rep, the less they cn pay you (in the same boat as you). However, someone with a high rep may come and vote, yet you find they only gave you a cent or two. This could be out of 2 reasons: a) after their PowerSteem has passed $500, they get a slider and they can choose to give you a small percentage of their max vote - this is what usually happens. b) they have already voted too many other posts and their voting power went down...

Another and final point: Where does the money come from?

Steemit has a Reward Pool. If your max vote is at 100% you make a vote and it goes down in power after the vote and needs about 2 hours to get back to full power. You can make 10 upvotes a day, and then your votes are worth zero - even if you have a good balance in your psd (PowerSteemDollar).

You can earn upvotes on your posts plus on your comments. If you read a post and make an interesting and friendly comment, often you'll find you will earn more from that good comment than from all your posts that day. This is supposed to be a 'Social' media; be friendly, never comment boring stuff like, 'good post - brilliant', rather discuss the post and even make suggestions.

That is it for now. I hope you get out of the low Rep as you deserve to be doing better. Any more questions, just post a comment in any post of mine and I'll reply.

PS: Do not worry right now how you can draw out money, first build a balance worth drawing out - remember, there can be charges for converting (selling) your steem dollars. At that time, when you have a SteemPower of at least $500 and cash you want to draw out, ask again.

Good luck.

It happened too all of us "small fish" :) the bandwidth during "rush hours" is very small, usually if you wait until a less crowded hour the problem fixes itself. You're not alone

Thanks, Priscilla! I feel better knowing that it's a more common thing. It happened again this morning and I just waited awhile and now it works again. Yay!

maybe i've also been reading ,,
what kind of postings ??

I have had that message show a couple of times (mostly in the morning). Today I checked in here https://steemd.com/@rick1 I had used 144kb, and the maximum was around 100kb. In the afternoon it went up to around 1MB and now (6PM Central Time) is +4MB. I checked accounts from 25-39 reputation, and we had about the same bandwith. A couple of 60-70 rep accounts, and they had 80MB in the morning and went up to 1.72GB now!
