Why You Should Be On Steemit (psst, it's not normal!)

in steemit •  8 years ago  (edited)

Someone told you about Steemit, and now you’re wondering: What’s the fuss about?

It’s clunkier than Facebook.

It’s uglier than Instagram.

It’s a just a step above Twitter, but Twitter’s dying anyway.

You don’t have your entire friend library on here, like you do on FB. So why should you stick around?

Steemit might be for you if…

If you find that the normal life isn’t for you. Maybe it never was. Maybe you tried it early on and just didn’t make it work. Maybe you’re in it right now, working a 9 to 5, or maybe some contract job, looking for another way, a better way to life. Steemit offers refuge from normalcy.

If you’re curious. Not just curious about what’s over the rainbow, but curious about people. If peering into other people’s lives is interesting to you, Steemit might be right up your alley. People are incredibly open here, sharing their thoughts, ideas, ups and downs in a way that is generous and open in a thriving, growing kind of way, not a whiny "I'm a victim" way.

If you’re willing to open your mind. There are all kinds on Steemit, from 67 year old ex-Navy officers telling their life story like @vcelier to family guys asking for help in naming their newborn like @papa-pepper. Each one has their own amazing viewpoint, and if you’re willing to open your mind and learn about other people, Steemit offers a huge number of fascinating stories.

If you like sharing beauty. Just a quick search through the #photography tag will show you just how passionate some Steemers are about capturing beauty, and how willing they are to share it.

If you like to meet people. You don’t have to physically meet them, you just have to share the space of an idea. I’ve e-met a bunch of them, and they’re all so open to having a quick (or long) conversation.

If you want to learn more about Steem. What better place to learn than the source? From folks like @blakemiles84 to @andrarchy you can get any number of posts explaining in more depth what the heck Steemit is good for, and why you should dive deeper.

If you like crypto currency. Of course, that’s a huge topic on Steemit, being that this whole thing is built on a blockchain and crypto is firing right now. You can get as deep as you want here, from learning from guys like @jerrybanfield or investigating the thoughts of world-shakers like @dollarvigilante to folks just as curious as you and maybe a few years ahead, like @itsmein3d.

Look, I could keep going forever with this list, and you’d find someone else, a real person, into at least one thing you’re into. Could be pet goats, could be shitting in a bucket, could be living in a van, or hell, underwater basket weaving.

The point is that Steemit is WAY open to you making all sorts of odd connections, is a hugely generous family because we can afford to be, and is, as far as I know, the only social platform that actually values your input in a way you can use in the real world.

The Inspiration List
-My paragliding buddy @captainobviou3 for making Steemit work for something as unknown as paragliding; there are only about 5,000 of us pilots in the US!
-One of the great stories about how a real person just worked and wrote and shared their story, and made up their own amazing life: @ausbitbank
-The white hat hackers @noisy and @lukmarcus for keeping it real, pointing out the flaws and helping fix them.
-The generous explanations of @kevinwong when it comes to what you should do with your Steem.
-The amazing willingness to grind that @hilarski shows. Rad!
-The consistently interesting writing from @denmarkguy just makes Steemit a fun place to return to and know you're going to learn something!

Welcome to Steemit, I hope you poke around here long enough to see just how special this world is.

Cheers!

I thought I'd give the ol' @randowhale a whirl on this post. Just read about it last night, seems like a neat idea.

I m comin for this platform dude. Nice post @paleotreats

Excellent! Stoked to see you on here. The absolute best thing you can do is consistently add value with every interaction. Strong comments, content creation, or a good eye for curation; use 'em all!

It is the future. Good work keep spreading the word.

Aw yeah, you know it! I'm starting to recruit hard for Steemit, I think this is such a rad place to explore.

Thanks for the mention @paleotreats! Yup, get up daily and make this a habit and you can't lose.

Heck yeah @hilarski! Excellent point about making this a habit. I think of all the social media "habits", this is probably the healthiest. While I'll admit you've got to wade through some irrelevant posts at the beginning, just being on here every day and interacting, watching as this ecosystem grows, and staying super curious and engaged has been a fun journey. Keep on putting out good work, and Steem on!
