Do I really have to let another creepy bug crawl on me just to try to get paid on here?
What do you guys think, is anyone tired of putting up a front here on steemit? Is it getting harder and harder to try to fake it through a post? I share a bit of my recent thoughts in this vlog, but I'll type out a few below after the video.
WHO ARE YOU?
IS PAPA REALLY FAKING IT?
No, and that was my point. My question wasn't "is anyone else tired of pretending?" it was "is anyone tired of pretending?" Because, if they are, it may be best just to quit. I don't mean it may be best to quit steemit, but rather to quit pretending. Also, It doesn't just work on steemit, but in life too.
There is no need for anyone to "wish they were like @papa-pepper" and then go get bit in the face by a snake.
You see, whether it is planting my garden, teaching my @little-peppers, loving life with @mama-pepper, or me out in the wild enjoying the creatures, I'm just being me. It's the same me that I was before steemit ever came out, and it's the same me that'll be living this same life years from now (Lord willing.) I'm not putting on a show or faking anything, I'm just enjoying what I enjoy and sharing it through video, photos, and writing here on steemit.
I think that too many in life (and therefore by default on steemit as well) spend way too much time pretending to be something or someone that they are not. They may spend a lot of money on expensive clothing so that they will "look cool" enough to convince others that they "are cool." If you understand peppers at all, you'll know that @papa-pepper just isn't concerned with "cool." It is not the way of the pepper.
Did you guys see that awesome shirt that I'm wearing in that photo? Yeah, I think that it cost about $2 USD at Wal-Mart. Pretty cool, huh? Oh yeah, let's not forget my sweet ride with the amazing paint job.
Okay, so it does have the logo going for it, but the peeling white on grey is not what most would choose. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not bragging about not bragging, I'm just saying that this is who I am. I'm more than a shirt, and more than a truck. I won't be standing next to the neighbor's sweet ride pretending it's mine, even if my neighbor eventually gets a sweet ride.
YOUR TURN!
In my time on steemit, I've met a lot of REAL people. Sometimes, I even drive over to their houses and eat the larvae of hornets with them, just to make sure that they are real people.
Unfortunately, I can't do that with everyone, can I? No, sometimes I just have to settle for playing with balloons on their couch, or at least trying to play with balloons with them.
Since we can't all just hang out offline and be real together, perhaps we should be real here. I honestly think that there is no way as many people would be enjoying my posts if it wasn't for me just being real and sharing life here.
I know that some of you may be thinking that playing with snakes and balloons is more entertaining than what you are up to in your life. Though it may be more entertaining, opinions vary. Check out @jaybird sometime. Right now, he is mostly making sandwiches or music. Those are some of the things that he is enjoying in life right now, and he is having fun sharing those things here on steemit with the rest of us.
I went back into the blog history of @jaybird a bit, and I have to admit, I don't think that he is pretending to make sandwiches. I think that he is really doing it, and doing it well. In fact, just like I encourage others to take photos of the plants and animals around them in my weekly Combination Photography Contest @jaybird is actually running a Steemit Sandwich Contest. I appreciate @jaybird being real and enjoying himself while he is just being himself so much that I've actually been donating some SBD to help fund his contest for some time now.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
I feel like I know a lot of you now, and I appreciate that. Hopefully, many of you are getting to know me more too. On the platform steemit is a community of steemians and that community grows bigger and stronger by our relationships. Whoever you actually are, I'm glad that you are here, and I'm glad that you have this opportunity that steemit provides along with the rest of us. It's a great thing to be a part of.
So, whether it is snakes or sandwiches, just be yourself. That crazy big stick insect in the cover photo and vlog was a gift that someone gave to me. I'm not sure how many of you have ever received a giant bug as a gift, but the only reason that I ever did was because I am real. I really like creatures like that, and people really know that I do. Therefore, sometimes when they see an interesting one, they let me know.
The same thing is true for the pygmy rattlesnake in that video. People not only know what @papa-pepper is really about, and they even support it!
I guess that the only thing that you may still really want to know is if I am actually @papa-pepper, or if I just created that alias for steemit. Perhaps this original music video from 2013 may put those questions to rest.

To be genuine is to be free. It's easy to be a genuine fake. Everyone does it, and it's probably a big cause of unhappiness in our world.
We all wear masks here and there, but it is important to remain aware of staying true within those social identities.

As usual @papa-pepper, I am happy to read another great post by you! You're right, I keep trying to tell everyone this too... my whole mantra here is "do what you would be doing anyway" If people like it, AWESOME! That definitely doesn't hurt me at all but if they don't, well, then it's not heartbreaking because I a) enjoyed doing it and/or b) would have done the same thing regardless. I don't know anyone who had succeeded (long term) while faking it... eventually it wears you down.
I used to be such a little princess, wanna-be-cool-girl nightmare, faking every second of my day with the most expensive clothes and makeup available, working jobs where I sold my soul and now, you'll find me barefoot, in charity shop clothing, my hair dried from the wind, my face free from years of being stuffed full of chemicals and I am living a life I love and I love being able to share that life here. I see great potential for this platform and for people like you who are on here, breathing their souls to the world... I would wish you success, but success already comes to you for this very reason. Sending love to you, even though you're slightly too far away for me to come and play in the garden with you. Though, let it be known, I am definitely game for a 'pepper-off' (eating spicy peppers off the plant) one day should the opportunity strike to prove I am real ;)

yeah a few people are really milking the reward pool and their posts are kind of vague and lame ....whatever though i can't really judge some might think my posts might be vague or lame but I try to wait until I have a real thought but now I have too many ideas and I have a big list of them and now Im just feeling anxiety like from school as if I have a massive list of tasks to finish and i Have to eventually start doing them but yeah I like how I have no due dates but i do try to do a post everyday so I really do have at least that due date I do follow but even sometimes I am late with that and skip a day, but the school thing, man, wow i just now realized thats whats going on with me at least, maybe others were conditioned to write a certain way from school and having to write a lot of essays all the time, i even had teachers telling me to just bullshit my way through school and learn to be good at bullshitting because only the best bullshitters end up winning,...well that teacher was pretty cynical...but yeah writing is a trip!

I've been following you for a little bit, and I enjoy your posts but don't often reply, as I see how many comments you receive, and don't want to inundate you with more of the same... but I just need to stop in and say THANK YOU! There are so many out there, faking it, pretending for the sake of what others might think, both in the "real world" and here on steemit. And I think we could use a lot more authenticity, and self-acceptance. I hope we will start seeing more of a shift in thinking, where instead of trying to be cool, people will just be themselves. Because not giving a s*#% what other people think, and being authentic to yourself is cool, and I think, ultimately makes us feel the most happy and fulfilled in life. And isn't that what everyone wants?

I don't pretend because I did not come here with the idea or intent of making money or getting rich speculating in bitcoin. I heard Steemit and Dtube was a place where Free Speech was welcomed without the censorship that is happening with Youtube, facebook twitter, patreon, paypal and even google. Shutting down people for saying anything the left might disagree with. I wasn't getting paid by any of those platform, but others were, so if they were able to be paid somehow. I was OK with that.

I'm really happy to be involved with some awesome steemers, who I know personally through being here, and who have encouraged me to become and active member of #promo-steem and #promo-uk. I'm talking about the dynamite @stephenkendal, @starkerz, @ashleypeat and through doing @minnowmentor awesome folk like @gmuxx, @sammosk and @eturnerx, and many others, and realising that the great thing about these guys is that they are who they both online and offline. I think it would be very energy consuming to pretend to be someone else. I've never thought about it as a valid option for myself, even though it meant I hardly had any friends. Being my true self, I was quite happy to enjoy me-time. And hey, now I have an awesome guy who likes my true self! I don't pretend to be something I'm not on Steemit either. Maybe I could gather bigger upvotes and more followers if I did, but honestly, I'd just get like... a Steemit burnout! Nah, rather just do what I enjoy and hope others enjoy what I write about.
I know plenty of people in this world pretend a lot. I know I shouldn't let it bother me much, but it annoys me sometimes to see someone get away with it and get ahead in life aswell! I know it'll probably catch up with them (or make them miserable in private), but it still annoys me. Most people don't see through it.

A while back I was sitting opposite someone on the tube in London, and this guy had about 10 shopping bags with him - from Cartier, Louis Vuitton and all these fancy brands. And he had tons of bling jewellery on and a massive gold watch and all that. And so I just thought 'whatever, guess he likes shopping'.
But then I looked again and I realized that all the bags were frayed at the edges and had loads of scuffs and marks - they weren't actually new bags from the shop that day, they were old. And then I peeked inside the bags and I saw that they just had some old cloths in them - no wrapping, nothing new.
And I realized that this guy was just travelling round trying to look rich - for no purpose other than that, at least as far as I could see
Made me a bit sad as I sat there wearing my Havaiianas and t-shirt.
But I like that STEEMIT is, or can be if you choose, totally anonymous. I think that I am perhaps a bit more real as a result. Kind of like being drunk, it makes it easier to speak your mind

A great post as always, and I have to say I have never thought of you as pretending or fake in anyway, for me you come across just as a guy who shares his life and what he is doing and passionate about in a very straight forward way, and I say keep it up
I try to be honest here all be it through my photos, I am not comfortable in front of a camera so there will be few or non photos or videos of me, but my passion is getting out taking photos and trying to improve the quality of the photos I get as I go along
I may write the odd bit about my thoughts about a photo or place but generally let my photos do the talking as I think I am better at photos than I am at talking :)

Good morning. I'm not tired of keeping it real since all photos, stories and all contents made by me. I would assume some people might be getting tired of putting our best foot forward with little appreciation. I understand that we; content writers, are individual miners and mining steem can be very slow and painful.
However, those came prepared with plenty of SP do very well here. So, yes, creativity might fizzled for some trying to earn without much invested and no cool kids as your Steemit friends.

I think what a lot of people fail to realize when they start pretending is how hard it is to KEEP pretending.
Once you invent a fake persona, you have to keep it going, keep the illusion from flaking off (like the paint on papa's truck). Eventually you either become the persona for real, or you are found out and scorned.
Why not just be yourself and express your varied interests? we all gotta eat, so a guy making sandwiches has appeal. There is something interesting about even the person who considers themselves to have nothing to share. Steem gives us an opportunity to find what that is, share it, and be rewarded for sharing.
Kudos for continuing to be you @papa-pepper! You are a great example for people to point to in showing that doing what you love and sharing it with others works!

That was the largest walking stick I have ever seen! I remember taking a deceased rhinoceros beetle to Mail Boxes Etc., to ship to my friends in Indiana. You should have seen the look on the woman's face when she opened the box after asking me what I was sending, and I told her, a bug.
I live in the South and our bugs come in the XXL here. This beetle was enormous and looked prehistoric. Needless to say, my friends had years of fun and excitement, hiding my gifts to them in various places at work and home.

I too get very very very tired of all the fake-positivity on this platform! I actually have been making it a point to try and find real people out there.. even if they write about completely different topics. I'd rather have one person actually read and engage with me, than a dozen "Good post!" nonsense upvotes. I fall outside of the norm though, in doing so. I've criticized people on here, where it's probably better to stay quiet and make friends and join them if it's purely money I'm after... Then again, I'm a stubborn sort. I just don't think it's good for the platform. I look forward to a dillution of the community by outsiders coming in, who bring a sense of real instead of fake. Like, you know how on other platforms you can get upvotes for calling people out on their nonsense? Steemit seems to be kind of the opposite sometimes!

I think the reason your posts are probably up very high on my favorites' list is because it's obvious you are just being you, and you are an interesting person because you are so interested in what's around you and what you are doing. Whether it's looking at bugs or building chicken shelters or sharing the first fig with your kids, it's obvious you are just a guy caring for his business and loving his family. And in the meantime, you have a lot of good observations to point out and that makes for great Steemit posts that are worth the time to read.
There is no such thing as an ordinary man; not sure there's such a thing as an ordinary life either. Lives have a funny way of both being completely mundane and yet full of the unusual and the interesting at the same time. It just depends on how open your eyes are and how ready you are to be amazed by what can otherwise be overlooked. And you never know when something that seems completely unremarkable to you has never been seen by other people watching.

Cheers to being real! I live in a pretty big city and I have met so many fake people. It is almost astonishing the "front" some of them put up, then months later when you really get to know them, they are not at all who they pretend to be. I feel like I live in a pool of debt and masked individuals. So many people trying to look "successful"...whatever that means. I can only hope one day they will realize, they can only fool themselves for so long.
Online, I guess it is even easier to be fake. Perhaps the online masquerade spills over into their offline lives. Who knows.
All I know is there are still some of us real people out there. We can enjoy life being who we are. And if we can't, we can change.

Thank you for being you @papa-pepper and sharing what you and your family get up too. When I was letting the school know about Steemit, I used your family as an example the school loved what your family was doing showing other kids how to love animals and be aware of the danger signs. The school was going to check out Steemit, but said could be an issue with the Ministry of Education using Steemit due to getting donations for sharing posts.
With those that come from mlm or marketing they try to find a nitch to full, just being yourself and doing what interests you should be enough.
At times we want to please others by thinking they want interesting stuff when we are boring are we just going to bore people with what interests us, the only way to find out is being you.

Funny I just has a similar conversation earlier today with a co-worker who blogs. I'm trying to bring her here. As someone just starting here at Steemit, I hope to avoid the trap of posting something just for the sake of posting something. That's why I'll never promise "X" amount of posts a day/week. Inspiration doesn't occur on a schedule. I'm always looking for real people to interact with, that's why I am now following you, @xtrodinarypilot , and @dwells. Thanks for keepin' it real.

I love this post - it's beautiful, inspiring, and also very funny! And I am happyhappyHAPPY that you get to be you and I get to stay being me, because that stick insect is FREAKING me OUT! 😂 It is amazing, and beautiful in a badass-massive-bug kind of a way, and I love that nature creates such a diverse and incredible myriad range of creatures, but I am definitely going to leave handling that puppy to you, Papa Pepper. @papa-pepper I am really glad to be in this community and to know there are some real people here too. Putting a mask on to impress others is a very bad thing. One thing I have learnt is that if the face we always show the world is a mask someday there will be nothing beneath it. If we spend so much time modeling or constructing a fake life and after we're done, it would be too late to find our real self. It is okay being our true selves because people will still love us the way we are. So there's no time to impress or live a fake life. Don't fear the judgement of others always tell yourself that they are humans like you. You don't have to be perfect to inspire others, let them be inspired by how you deal with your imperfections.
