Just the other day, @cryptofarmer wished me a happy birthday, because @papa-pepper had been on steemit for a full year already. It is amazing how quickly life can go, and how much can happen in just one year. I thought that it would be a good time for me to reflect and gather my thoughts about the past, present, and future of @papa-pepper on steemit.
From being a n00b who knew nothing to steemit meetups to steemians from Canada showing up in town tonight, this steemit has been a wild ride! The vlog runs about 20 minutes, so enjoy it!
REFLECTING ON MY FIRST YEAR ON STEEMIT
I realize that some of you may be looking for advice. I've certainly posted a lot of it in my time here, but often it is buried by months of newer content, so it may be hard for you to find it. This is certainly not exhaustive, but these are some of my best and most insightful advice posts.

Yes, they sure are! But reading through your articles, I realized how slow a reader I'm. When you claim that to be a 4 or 5 minute read and I take thrice as much time to do so, I feel I need to increase my reading speed a lot just to be an average reader.
Was post payout happening twice earlier? You mentioned somewhere that you used to get paid twice ...once after a day of posting and then after a month. I think it was a better system. Why was it modified to present one?

You are a true inspiration, I’m glad you took your friends advice on signing up! I can’t image what tags use to look like. Sounds like that was a giant mess!!! I rather enjoy just being limited to 5. I got onto Steemit because it gave me an incentivized outlet also. My friends would always ask me to get on FB. I would say, "Why?".
Steemit is cool. It gives people a platform that isn't ego based.
We can go out, post unique parts our personality and be rewarded for it.
It just feels genuine and I love it for that.
The most surprising thing to me is I feel like I'm meeting good friends. I didn't expect that bonus.

Congrats, for the first year.... It's been 9 months since I registered.. but the actual time for me here is about two or three weeks (This last week, and few separated days across the past 8 months)... so I'm technically new.

OK @papa-pepper, the work of people like @dwinblood have caused me to re-evaluate and change the way I approach things.
And since I see posts from people here on Steemit who's work I respect who seem to hold you in high regard I'll approach this as diplomatically as I can.
I've read through more than a few of your posts, including How to Play the STEEMIT LOTTERY - 5 WAYS TO WIN!, not just the posts, but the comments as well. And I don't understand why I don't ever seem to see comments to your posts actually get upvotes from you.
Rather than MUTE you, I'm taking what I consider to be the more mature and honest route and simply ask you for an explanation.
I've been pleasantly surprised quite a few times here on Steemit when I've asked for clarification from people, only to find out that I had misunderstood the situation.
I'm hoping this turns out to be yet another case where I just didn't have enough info.
I'm not looking for an upvote, just an explanation.

I think that you are asking why I do not upvote comments from others on my posts.
In my post about that, I was talking about the generally opportunity that exists. Comments can earn upvotes. Some people (like @kus-knee) upvote comments more often than others. Some users never do. At times I do, but I did not specifically write the post to say that I like to upvote comments.

My point was to share ideas about many of the different ways that users could potentially make some STEEM on steemit, since so many users at the time only thought about making posts.
Though my upvotes on comments may be infrequent, HF19 took an even bigger toll on them. My current voting power is usually only 20 -30%, but I still do upvote some comments, even a few in the past week, at 100%. I, like any other user, have no obligation to upvote any comments or posts, but I try my best to get around and certainly do a good job draining my voting power while doing so.

@papa-pepper yes, I appreciate your answering in such a straightforward way. You obviously took the time to write a decent answer and I see how busy you are here.
That says a lot to me about your character.
It also explains why there are people who go out of their way to thank you for the help you've given them. @gmuxx has specifically mentioned you more than once and I respect him enough to not use his name until I had come to a conclusion.

I love the financial incentive that Steemit provides, it's such a motivator! I had been wanting to start writing for years, but I always made an excuse to procrastinate. Now that Steemit is dangling a few dollars in front of my face, I'm actually writing!
Then I start finding people that I like here, and meeting people, and doing contests. The saying that you mentioned "come for the money, stay for the community" is apt indeed!
A few days ago I found a post with a picture of the author and a friend that I'd met in Thailand years ago. It was cool to see that my friend is still out in Asia, doing his thing. I think Steemit is helping to make the world a smaller, friendlier place.
