On the road to 50 million Steem users...

in steemit •  7 years ago

An interesting infographic was being shared on my Twitter timeline this past week: The Number of Years It Took For Each Product to Gain 50 Million Users.

The infographic shows product adoption for the biggest consumer technologies in the last 100 years based on reaching 50 million active users. It is interesting to note that recent technologies reach 50 millions users in only a few years, instead of a couple of decades. The app Pokemon Go even hit 50 million users on mobile devices in it’s first nineteen days of release.

Thanks to the mass acceptance of mobile phones and the Internet, our ability to wide spread new technologies has become much easier than it used to be in the last one hundred years. Besides, Both Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and Pokemon Go are free to use, in contrast to the other mentioned products.

When will Steem reach 50M users?

While 50 million users is a great benchmark for technology adoption, I think we must not forget the longevity of a product. 'Pokemon Go' absolutely set a tremendous performance by reaching 50M users so quickly, but the hype didn't last very long.

Did you know it took Google+ only 88 days to hit 50 Million users? But who is using the platform nowadays?

The STEEM whitepaper was released in March 2016 and last weekend we celebrated (you did, didn't you?) 250,000 registered Steem accounts. That's 250K users in 16 months, but don't forget that we celebrated the 200,000 mark only 24 days ago. So the first 200K users took us 15 months while we have recently welcomed 50,000 new users in only 24 days. That's exponential growth. If we all keep on inviting our friends and relatives, who knows how quick we can reach 50 million users!

It’s an exciting time to be living! :)

STEEM Accounts

I've made a chart of the number of Steem accounts of the last 3 months.

It sure has potential to go viral. I mean, people spend their time writing for free on Facebook, they take online surveys where they make perhaps 10$ a month. When the stay at home mom, people on welfare and everyone else finally discovers Steemit in about a years time - it could really take off. Then you wont be sorry you joined early :)

Once the word gets out what is really happening on steemit there will be a stampede. Better have those servers ready guys. It's gonna get hectic.
Yippee! lol
What a great problem to have?

I agree with that!!

I can hear them coming already.

Exactly it wont take no where near the time people think.

3 years from release to 50 million. So we would be a little less than half way.. maybe 3 1/2 years. That's my guess. But it's an amazing accomplishment already. The steemit Alexa rating compared to the registered users is amazing..

Ohh and if you get time and feel so inclined you should make page dividers for the post art challenge, your artistic abilities would be appreciated haha!

Love the steemnow tool just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to create it!
Best,

Thank you, good to hear you like it :)

You have a link I can use to vote for you for witness?

Thank you, but I'm not a Steem witness.

Thanks @issac.rodebush! I will check it out!

I think, as far as strength is concerned, what's important is not how many people join it, but how many people actually stay on it. I mean, the main USP of this platform is that posters get paid. In that sense, its more of a blogging platform with a social network attached to it. So ultimately, if the payouts are satisfactory, the people will stay(and more people will join).

The payouts obviously depend on the amount of Steem purchases. So I think what's important, is that the market shouldn't become so competitive that those who want to promote their posts can't afford to do so.

Exponential technology you said it ! What and exciting time to be involved in crypto currency's and steem! I believe the opportunities on steam are endless!! I think when I joined which is in June 2017 it said there was 170,000 users. Then I heard 200,000 users! Now another 50,000 users in 24 days wow that's great! Someday all the Facebook users Will be on steem it! I'm currently saving up now to buy more steam power and think it is a gift that the price is so low!

As long as the development team keeps improving the platform, and we members continue to contribute, it is just a matter of time we hit mass adoption. We'll keep steeming, the bright future is just a few months ahead... Upvoted and resteemed!

I agree, I can't see a downside to being involved in Steemit. There are likely to be a very large number of people eager to join a website like Steemit.

Yeah... we are actually looking at how it would be easier for members join Steemit in the near future hopefully it would be addressed at the next hard fork.

Another one!?
Your posts are amazing. Following! How did I not find you before? The Pokemon Go one is hilarious! 19 days LOL

Thank you so much for the 10 SBD. I really appreciate it :)

I wonder what the reward pool will look like @ 50 million users???

Maybe in another year or two before we reach 50 million users.

This platform has a revolutionary monetary system that is causing many news users to come to this platform every day. I personally think that this platform will be bigger than reddit and be the biggest forum site on the internet. We use forums anyway so why not get paid for your feedback and time? I could see the steem cryptocurrency at 100$ in 2 years if not sooner. It's a great platform and I don't see why people would stop using it!

I'm sure steemit wont be alone ,there will be other similar platforms too in near future!!

I wonder what the effect of that many users coming on board in a short time would be. Will it dilute the steem pool, causing votes and post payouts to drop? What effect will it have on the price of Steem? What happens with a huge increase in numbers, then attrition hits due to whatever factors, and all the new accounts become inactive? I'm fairly new to steemit, and have lots of questions like these. Of course, some will only come out over time. And future HFs. I came on board before HF19, and in my short time here have seen negative effects from since the rollout. They may not be effects of the HF itself, but something changed. Or maybe I just haven't been on long enough to understand. That's a very real possibility.

I'm curious about exactly this myself. Would love @penguinpablo or another long-time user to weigh in. I'm too new to fully understand the implications of what happens with such a massive influx of users.

2 years i say!

Good question ... My guess is 4 years

dude i see u everywhere!!! seriously are u a bot haha but seriously if u keep thos up u will be making thousandsof dollars her soon! comment money goes to those who keep commenting
ur on ur way to having $10,000 in 1 month

Figure its worth it to comment here because right now my comment is worth $.02

If you look real close, you can see me winking in my profile picture.

Hahahaha!

In fact I think Steemit fun, besides learning a lot about curiosities from all world.

If I'm going to make a lot of money or not I do not know, but what fun is : P

pokemon go were a big boom. But in 19 days it grow very fast but the degresion were after 2 weeks

Maybe if someone launches an app that when you go outside you can catch a whale i would say 8 days :D

50 million would be pretty astounding. Even 1 million users would be fairly remarkable, but mass adoption would likely cause the value to increase greatly. Still, I don't understand how this can scale with fewer and fewer at the top and masses at the bottom. What motivation would people have to use the service if the primary selling point is, "you make money for posting?"

Wow good luck steemit
Follow @dine77
Pls check my last 2 blogs upvote if you like

I think it will not suddenly grow up steemit user. Why?Steemit is not convience or easy for everyone now because steemit is trying to be real person user, good content and own reation althout steemit is free social media.Graditually steemit user will grow up not enough to be match other social medial when social user know about the all benifit of using steemit social media.

it depends on the situation on the crypto market :)

We are gonna have party, woop! woop!!

The amount of users wil grow exponentially meaning a start of 250k will be a great launch into booming into the tens of millions in the coming months

Cool info! 19 days for Pokemon Go, I wished I invented that app lol

nah ya dont.. Lawsuit after lawsuit...

Damn, forgot about that. Oh well, back to the drawing board lol

Wow good work steemit

Your post is very interesting to follow, thank you for sharing .. success always for you.

It would be interesting to see how many of the users that sign up remain active.

Love the chart. We will have over 500K before 2018, next year, I'm guessing, and 50M before 2020. Upvoted. Resteemed. Thanks.

Hello penguinpablo!

I am writing to let you know that I have featured a quote from one of your older posts in my latest publication which you can find here:

Thank you for the inspiration

Oh mighty @penguinpablo. Very interesting post here. I have a question for you: on SteemNow, I up until now have been able to see under "Latest Upvotes" but now it's gone. I clicked the eye and nothing. Any troubleshooting tips? I restarted my computer and tried signing in again, but nothing.

Thank you for letting me know. I've noticed it as well. It seems a problem with the Steem.js API. The votes are not included anymore. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Ok thanks :)

Word of mouth and publicity can send this anywhere. As long as it adapts to more users and deals with any issues quickly then it can only be seen positively ;-)

Wow congrats steemit, it will be the next facebook?

It is the steem power. the day is not far away when there will be 100k new users per day.

Steemit is like a snowball right now. But lets hope it is rolled gently so it can gain hardness and become a solid snowball, so it will last for a long time. We don't want Steemit to be like PokemonGo and melt into a puddle of nasty pudding. Great informative post.

Steemits biggest benefit is the superstrong network effect. Users have incentive to create, curate and behave! This is unprecedented on the internet, we actually have a functioning "society" here.

Wheneever you earn your first reward you're invested in the platform and want to see it succed. When the platform succeeds, the users succeed, we're in this boat together folks! And I have to admit, it's a hell of a boat!

We might have already reached critical mass considering the strong netwrok effect, and from here and onwards you better strap your seatbelts, we're going to the moon!

This post received a 2.3% upvote from @randowhale thanks to @penguinpablo! For more information, click here!

.

Great information @penguinpablo! We will be there in no time!

The term is "exponential growth" That is what is going to begin to happen. As long as we don't have people waiting in line for 5 days to get validated I think we are going to experience "exponential" magic soon.

Wow! Pokemogo is fastest 😃

Wow! This is unreal the rate Steemit is growing🎈😊

Off topic warning!!!!!!
Do you know why I can't see any "latest up votes" on the steemnow?

Thank you for letting me know.
I've just fixed it :)

No thank you! I love the site.

I don't know how long it will take. Let's just keep on inviting our friends and family to sign up. Then tell them to blog and comment original content like there is no tomorrow.

Wow that is certainly an interesting graph. Adding 50,000 in just 24 day's is a bit mind boggling to say the least.
The obvious question is longevity of new users. How many are active users? That would be very interesting stat to know.

Really great and informative post! It's really exciting to see the growth of Steemit and all of the potential it has. Have to follow so I can read some more great posts!

This post has been ranked within the top 25 most undervalued posts in the second half of Jul 10. We estimate that this post is undervalued by $38.91 as compared to a scenario in which every voter had an equal say.

I agree with @scandinavianlife. The market for this is in its infancy. There are so many benefits and so many possibilities for this to take off. Plus, so many people that are tired of FB, Twitter, not working, etc.
There is so much opportunity here. I am glad I joined now and I really like the whole concept. Very exciting.

Impressive accounts for the 3 months!
BTW on Steemnow, Im not seeing any info for latest upvotes... all the other fields are working. I love Steemnow and use it all the time :)

Thank you for letting me know.
I've just fixed it :)
You might have to clear your browser cache if you still don't see the upvotes.

10 months cause the more that start using and earning with steemit the more people who arent using it will be influenced to use people love to earn money so people will join now it remains to be seen if they can earn which is what will draw they to steemit to begin with trust me people love Facebook Steemit is that will also the possibility to earn boy this will grow quickly the ability to earn and do what most do all day anyway.

3 years
we already wont beat pokemon go or twitter, but yeah end of this year will be 1 million, and then 2018 will be the year of steemit when we reach our tipping point and millions of people join and people buy billions worth of steempower

I think Steemit is about to make that big step, the tendency of this is totally shown in your graphic. I can't predict or imagine when this could reach 50 millions, but I can certainly be sure is gonna be sooner than we expect. It is indeed an exciting time to be living. Cheers to that, you have really interesting articles, Im already following. Nice post man, keep it up. Have a nice day.

I'm coo-coo for coco puffs.

when I look at accounts like warren.buffet - who probably owns thousands of other accounts... these numbers look a lot different...

we must keep in mind that the number of accounts does not reflect the number of users very much!

I love Steemit and I am sure it won't be that long before it's first milion

This is so very interesting penguinpablo I am resteeming and thanks for all your help

That Pokemon Go Standard will not be beat. It had a huge nostalgic fan base and it showed.

Yes, but how many Active users will there be?

Nice. Resteemed :)

It will reach once the crypto goes mainstream. Many of these accounts are catfish and fakes, not posting too much etc. Quantity is not important if you don't have the quality to follow it.

I guess the amount of registered accounts will increase faster and faster. So it's kinda hard to predict when we will cross the milestone of 1M. Hope soon!

Great insight, there's nothing stopping Steemit from big achievements and millions of users.

Whats the usage rate of those users? The daily-active user count?
How many posts, comments and upvotes are being created?
Whats the churn rate?

Accounts are a vanity metric.

Knowing that Crypto Currencies will become more mainstream arround 2025 i would say 5-8 years Max. After that many of us will be the leading example for those to come. #proudtobehere

This really puts things into perspective! It is crazy how fast things can get there now!

Great article, thanks for the info :)

i reckon 2 more years!

Definitely in a year and a half.

Well if steem it trends RIP facebook
