I ran across a comment on another page a few days ago, and it had a sweet clickable icon. You can see it here:

This seems like a great idea to paste to the bottom of any article doesn't it? A nice call to action, without the distasteful "upvote" request that seems to annoy people.

Of course, the markdown approach involves mixing in HTML, so why not just use standard HTML.
