15 SBD Design/Writing/Video Contest to Promote Steemed Phish And Stop All Phishing Attempts On Steemit

As much as I would like to make it for phones I can’t because mobile browsers don’t allow extensions at the moment

Hmm. What is your plan? That's the recommendation I've received from the Steemit users.

Educating the users is always the best way for that kind of thing. This extension is only a tool to help out users but in the end, we are hoping that they will start learning and be more careful in any online activities, not just on Steemit.

Things users need to start doing:

  • care for their password, on the blockchain, you loose your password you loose everything.
  • never use your password (also called Owner Key), keep safe somewhere, use a password manager like Lastpass, copy it on a piece of paper and put it in a safe etc...
  • to login on Steemit and post and upvote, use your Private Posting Key
  • to perform transfers and other account settings, use your Private Active Key
  • if you got stolen your posting or active key, you can still use your password to login and reset all those private keys. If you get stolen your password, the thief can lock you out.

Then on top of that, for anything internet related:

  • always check what you are clicking on. Web browsers will usually show you a preview of the URL a link will take you to. Verify that the link is not going to somewhere unusual. For example, if you are on Steemit.com and the link takes you to somethingelse.com but the text of the link says it's something that is supposed to be on steemit.com then its phishy!
  • in doubt, never login on the new page you have landed on.
  • if you were logged in and now logged out, think twice. Maybe wait a moment, reload the page and see if you are logged back in, if still not, then verify the URL of the current page: are you still on Steemit.com?

On steemit.com when a link is showing that little icon with an arrow, this means the link is taking you away from the platform:

Wow, what a great explanation. Thank you so much! That's the REAL thing! Education is the ANSWER!
