GARDENING PROGRESS!

in steemit •  7 years ago

Let us start with one of my plum trees. She is only 3 years old and doing very well with our climate. When I bought it it was labeled Russian Plum. I have tried to find another without success. I may have to look into grafting one.

Here is a photo showing the progress the garden is making. I apologize for the sun spot in the photo. Could not seem to get a good shot. From the forefront you will see onions, green peas, green beans and sweet corn. There is cabbage some where in there as well. The wire mesh is to slow the deer down a little. I would prefer if I have first pickings, then they can have a share.

Here is a picture of my pumpkin and winter squash patch:

I grow some of my tomatoes in a greenhouse for two reasons. First is we have cold nights even through the summer. Last week we had 3 or 4 nights in the upper 30's. The other reason is the deer love tomatoes...need I say more. Last year they got brave and one walked into the greenhouse to get her fill. My helper Sahara was checking things out. She tends to help herself to vegetables.

Thank you! Hope to do some posts for indoor gardening soon. IT is also getting close to start seeds that need to be started indoors early.

Sorry, @r2cornell net problem

It looks like hard work! Nice garden.
Best regards

Thanks. Yes it is a lot of work, but getting exercise and fresh food makes it worth it.

That's true! 👍

lovely dog, she has a lot of space in your garden , I am sure she is a loyal guard

Sahara chases the deer and wild turkeys out of the garden for me. She also catches lots of rodent. When I have to leave for work she sulks until I come home.

Very interesting progress man. You have enough to make a tasty salad with tomatoes and green beans. Resteemed

Thanks. I see we have blossoms on the cucumbers, zucchini, and peas. Won't be long.

Great, hopefully the fruit added a lot.

Great pictures, you have a nice garden.

Thank you @luja. I appreciate it.

Nice pics bro

Thank you!

I loaded your blog and will review later today. I have to can plums and freeze zucchini today. I will check it out when I take rest breaks.

Nice garden, luky you that you have the space to grown your own vegetables.

Thanks. Yes I am lucky and happy to have the space to garden as much as I can. I also like experimenting with using small spaces and containers.

Nice Pictures. great to see your garden :D

Thank you!

Welcome @r2cornell. I hope the plum has ripped now :)

Yes plums are ripe. I picked them a couple of days ago and plan to can some today for this coming winter. We have been eating a lot fresh.

Wow you stored for this winter too. That's great @r2cornell 🙂 You got a lot of plums

Thank you. I appreciate it. I canned 17 quarts of plums yesterday. Left some for fresh eating, and I have another variety (with less fruit) coming along nicely. Pictures coming soon!

So beautiful pictures .You have done good job today.Good luck.May be I have some news for you, check it at my blog.

Thank you! Will check out your blog.

Your garden looks epic! So large, must be amazing to have the freedom to grow so much.

Your plum tree is looking good too, and your tomatos.

I'd love to grow a squash or pumpkin but need more space.

Did you prepare all of your soil or just gor for it?

Thank you! I have been building my soil in this garden space for 13 years now. I add organic fertilizer each year, and grow green manure crops to till under for more fertilizer. When I pull weeds I lay them between the rows and let them decompose for next years fertilizer.

Pumpkins and squash need lots of space. I have corn on both sides and they will eventually end up in the corn rows.

Wow .. I can't even imagine how to land looked like before you made it into a gardeners paradise .. Effort nicely done...
P.S - I liked you doggie

Thanks for viewing. The garden area was an old pasture. Where we are located are lots of rocks. I gave up on a couple of spaces because it was like a gravel bed.

7 days ago ??? Trey posting something a litlle recent please

Not sure what you are talking about. I work 3 jobs, 7 days a week. I am not able to post frequently. There will be more as i stary shutting down my business i hope to have more time...

My apologies .... This comment was posted by my mistake .... I don't intended to either hurt you or post that rubbish comment on your blog ....
It got routed wrong ... I am sorry again for my miscommunication ....

No problem

It's really great to see people growing their own food. I just ate a salad with some fresh tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and onions, all from my garden. It was delicious. :D

Sounds delicious. There is nothing like fresh fruits and veggies!

Totally! When it's summer I'm eating fresh fruits and veggies every day. It's so awesome :D
People who eat daily form MC Donald's have no idea what they loose.

O God, if I eat fast food because I am in a hurry to get to an appointment I do not feel well for the day. I try to pack my lunch and take advantage of what I grow.

Totally. Same happening to me. I quit fast food a long time ago.
You know, that saying, you are what you eat? It's pretty much true. What you eat gets to decide the way you feel later. :)

Very true.

Beautiful Garden you got there.
lots of plum and nice dog by the way.
😄

Thank you! I am looking forward to ripe plums. Hoping to can a few jars for winter too.

Thats Awesome.
Well Wishes 😇😇 @r2cornell

I picked plums today and plan to can them tomorrow. Today I was busy solving water issues and canning chicken and homemade dog food.

wow beautiful also your dog hehe

Thank you! She came into my life shortly after I had to euthanize my previous dog. Was not planning on getting another right away but some one gave her to me as a pup. She is smart, but stubborn at times.

yes sometimes in our life may come and go.. but i see your happy with your new dog..

Thank you! Yes she is a great companion.

Yes he is cool. I like cats but allergic. I had a calico that was an outdoor barn cat and she lived for 19 years. Have had a couple more since but we have a lot of preditors and they were not as smart as the calico.

Beautiful gardens my friend. You must live somewhere warmer then me with that plum tree of yours?

Thank you. This plum is very cold hardy. We have hot days and cold nights, but this plum takes it all in stride. I have 2 other plum varieties that are struggling. The others tend to bloom too soon in Spring before the bees are out. This one depicted here is self fertile and holds back on blooms a little longer.

Cool! Do you think a plum tree or a least a certain variety would grow in Nova Scotia, Canada?

I would think so. Many plums are good for Zone 4. The biggest concern I have is even though where I am is zone 5, we are actually zone 4 due to our micro climate. A couple of my other plums blossom too quickly in the Spring (one is good for Zone 5) and there are too few insects to pollinate. The one I pictured is good for zone 4, and was called a Russian Plum. Each year I get more and more fruit. Wish I could find another to plant.

Brother this kind of endeavors give us growth and personal progress, as well as a contribution to the progress of our community. I congratulate you @r2cornell.

Thank you! I appreciate your comment.

That plum tree is so cute! 🤗 I've been wanting to have a plum, cherry, or nectarine tree, those trees which flowers during Spring season. Then I could enjoy the beautiful flowers and the fruits after. I have a cherry tree in a large pot but it won't flower for some reason. Sahara is such a beautiful four-legged helper ☺And lovely garden too.

Thank you! It really is quite the site when the fruit trees are in bloom.

wow this is superb !!
amazing post.

Thank you for viewing my post!

You do have a beautiful garden . Wow there's a lot of plum in one plant.

Thank you. Yes the plums are thick this year. I am watching branches to make sure they do not start breaking.

welcome @r2cornell :)

nice work...perfect..up & rs

Thank you!

You welcome friend @r2cornell :))

great to have such a garden where you can grow your own fruits and vegetables. My parent had one for years but now its all grass again.. I miss it alot! I hope when we are looking for a place to live me and my girlfriend that we'll have space to grow things. Or to hold chickens :)

It is something that if you experienced growing up it can stay with you. Great food, great exercise, and a great way to stay in touch with Mother Earth.

wow so much plum great progress you have made great to see your work.
