That's is most likely from people joining and then leaving the site IMO A lot of people join up thinking they are gonna start making hundreds per post and give up when they have no interesting content to contribute and are making only 0.01 per post :-D

Interesting... Where does the money come from?

While I'm reluctant to call it a scam, I can't see a future where Steemit, were it as popular as even Twitter, could be a viable business for anyone - if money only leaves the network.
I mean, users can buy STEEM and promote posts buy would that really cover all expenses?

I did read it.
While there may be truth there, it doesn't mean you need to abandon the network. If you have no money at stake, you have nothing to lose.
