সমাজ বিবর্তনে এবং সভ্যতার বিকাশের সাথে ধর্ম ছিল ওতপ্রোতভাবে জড়িত।প্রাচীন মিশরীয়রা তাদের ধর্ম বিশ্বাসকে লিখে রেখেছেন পাথরের গায়ে , সমাধি ক্ষেত্রে, গড়ছিলেন দেব দেবতাদের মূর্তি, মন্দির ইত্যাদি।

দেব দেবতা: প্রাচীন মিশরে ২০০০ এর ও বেশী দেব দেবীর অস্তিত্বের প্রমান পাওয়া যায়।এই দেব দেবতাদের মধ্যে স্থান কাল এবং পাত্রের পার্থক্য ছিল।কোন এক স্থানে যে দেবতা শ্রেষ্ঠ হিসেবে পূজিত হতেন অন্য স্থানে ছিলেন পৃথক অন্য কোন দেবতা, আবার মিশরীয় সাম্রাজ্যের গোড়ার দিকের দেবতারা পরবর্তীকালের দেবতাদের থেকে পৃথক।এদের মধ্যে কয়েকজন ছিলেন মিশরীয় রাজা বা ফারাও যারা পরবর্তীতে দেবতার আসনে অধিষ্ঠিত হন। কেউ কেউ আবার ছিলেন ক্ষতিকর দেবতা।উল্লেখযোগ্য দেবতারা ছিলেনঃ- রা বা রে(Re), তাহ(Ptah) ওসিরিস (Osiris),আইসি্স‌(Isis) হোরাস(Horus), সেথ(Seth), হাথর (Hathor), আনুবিস (Anubis), থথ(Toth),আটেন (Aten),আমুন (Amun), বাস্তেত (Bastet)।*তাহ- মিশরের মেমফিসে( কায়রো’র নিকটবর্তী স্থান) উপাস্য তিন দেবতার প্রধান ছিলেন তাহ।

শেখমেত ছিলেন সিংহের মাথাওয়ালা দেবী। তিনি সুর্য দেবতা রা’এর শত্রুদের ধ্বংশ কারী ছিলেন আর ।তাহ’র প্রতিকৃতি হল দেবতার পীঠস্থানে হাতে লাঠিওয়ালা মমিকৃত পুরুষ হিসেবে। তিনি ছিলেন সৃস্টিকর্তা দেবতা ।

প্রাচীন মিশরীয়রা বিশ্বাস করত সূর্য্য হল জীবনের প্রতিচ্ছবি। সূর্য্যোদয়, সূর্য্যাস্ত,পূনরায় উদয় হওয়ার মতই জন্ম,মৃত্যু এবং পূনর্জন্ম। রা দেবতা কে সূর্য চাকতি বা মাথায় সূর্য্য চাকতি বয়ে নিয়ে বেড়ানো ঈগল পাখির মাথা ওয়ালা একজন পুরুষ হিসেবে। তার প্রধান উপাসনা স্থল ছিল ইউনু বা হেলিওপোলিস ( সূর্য্য নগরী)। রা দেবতা বিভিন্ন রুপে আবির্ভূত হতেন, সকালে খেপরী( গুবরে পোকা ), বিকালে আটুম , এবং সন্ধ‍্যায় হোরাক্তি। গিজার স্ফিংসের মুর্তি হল হোরাক্তির প্রতিফলন। রা ছিলেন ৯ জন দেবতা বা গ্রেট ইনিয়াড( Great Ennead) প্রধান। তিনি ছিলেন পরকালের সর্বোচ্চ বিচারক। মিশরের ইতিহাসে সর্বোচ্চ দেবতা হিসেবে বিবেচিত রা-পুত্র ছিলেন একজন মিশরীয় ফারাও।

মিশরীয়রা বিশ্বাস করত মৃতরা এক সময় পূনর্জন্ম লাভ করবে। সে জন্য দেহ কে মমী করে সংরক্ষন করত।হোরাস- হোরাস হলেন আকাশের দেবতা। তিনি ছিলেন ওসিরিস এবং আইসিসের পূত্র। দেবতা সেথের হাতে ওসিরিস খুন হওয়ার পর তার জন্ম। মা আইসিস তাকে বড় করেন এবং ৮০ বছর ধরে যুদ্ধ করে পিতৃহত্যার প্রতিশোধ নেন।
