Lets talk about CURATION , and what it does for you, are you paying attention? Okay good.

Curation
Each post is split, 75% goes to the authur and 25% goes to the people who upvoted the post. Basically kinda like a reward for getting out in the community and participating in the platform, now that 25% that gets paid to the members is also split up between everyone that upvoted the post. No it is not split up equally, it is split up by steem strength, so the more steem you have the bigger your portion of the 25% is. Are you still with me? Good, lets move on. Your goal should be to get your name at the top of the upvote list, when that happens you get the biggest chunk of that 25% curation reward.

This is what it takes to get part of the curation reward. See it's pretty simple no vote, no curation, no growth. So do yourself a favor, AND, U P V O T E!

Comments are nice, and we want to hear your comments about our post, not that you followed and would like us to follow back. This will not get you any portion of that 25% curation reward, so DON'T DO IT!!
So to sum this up for you, curation rewards are free steem and sbd, but you have to UPVOTE

It is but that 25% is much bigger in payout. That is why each voting bot has a trail that followers them. Don't worry about getting higher than the bot, get higher then the trail that is following the bot. Thanks for your comment.

Awesome post @raybrockman, I think curation is very confusing and thus often ignored, but I do see a steady payout from this and I have started to try to time my votes and chose posts to try to get the most curation.

Most spammers are not upvoting. But yes if a spammer uovoted you the would get part of the curation reward.

What about resteems, @raybrockman? I was under the impression they too had curation rewards, as that is one of the best ways for someone to draw attention to a post that would never see the trending page. Very effective way to curate, either way. I come across a number of quality posts this way.

I dont think there is any curation that comes from resteeming. Now this is two folds, if you upvote and resteem, then you are increasing the possibilty that the post will get more upvotes, wich could possibly ended uo with more rewards.

Always try and keep your power above 80%. The biggest catch is to try to vote on the post within the 1st hour of it being posted.

so if youve got low %vote strength its better to let it recharge, also do you have to upvote between 15 and 30 minutes to get curation? or is it any time you upvote

Yes and no, yes it is a better payout on curation if you strength is good, you can vote outside the 15 to 30min window it will effect you curation rewards.

This is were it gets even more confusing, You do need to try any wait at least 30mins, and there is a huge benefit to being the first or one of the first voters. Even if your vote is low you can still get large curation rewards if you pick the right post. The final reward will depend on what the post is worth when it pays out in 7 days.

This is one of the better more simpler explanations of what is a difficult system to understand. I've read some other articles on it also, so....if you would, let me see if I'm getting everything.
The more steem power one has, the higher your portion.
The higher the percentage of your upvote (100%) the higher your curation percentage.
Being an earlier voter adds to your portion.
But...I have seen other articles saying that one should not vote until 30 minutes have passed.
Keep ones voting power above 80%.
