It was getting close the the end of my son's 7th grade year. He was growing up fast. Thats been 2.5 years ago.
I can remember he came home one day with this disturb look on his face. I asked him what was wrong? He said dad "no child should have to suffer". I asked him what was wrong. He replied that he notice a kid at school today that had cancer, he had lost most of his hair. He said having cancer is enough should you really have to have your hair fallout as well? I explained to him that this was part of the treatment process and his hair would grow back.
Well I dont think he was very happy with that response. He went straight to his laptop and started researching. Few hours latter, he came to me and said I found it, I said found what? How I can help, dad.
He proceeded to tell me about this company that he found, that makes wigs for children with cancer. So I asked him about the comapny.
WIGS FOR KIDS.
It is a non profit organization that have been serving children suffering hair loss since 1981. It was founded by Jeffery Paul. He once said "children shouldn't have to worry about how they look, especially in the middle of a health crisis. I thought to myself coukd this be happening, could my 7th grader, have found something that he wants to do to help out? He sure did. He said "dad I am not cutting my hair untill I can donate it to Wigs for Kids. I said ok, cool.
A little about Wigs for Kids.
The value of all children hair replacement is $1800. These are custom made hair replacements. Each prosthesis is hand tied and is made completly from human hair, so that they look like the childs real hair.
Wigs for Kids is a free service to the recipient. No cost has ever been charged to the recipient.
Fast forward to july 1st 2017 and he is ready. Now what I didnt know is that you have to go to an hair stylist that has been approved by Wigs for Kids. So we called around and found one.
Here is his experience.
Thats a lot of hair
Getting ready
Measuring, hair has to be a certain lenth.
Half way there.
Done
One side complete.
Not for sure why he wanted to take a serious picture. He was happy as hell.
So very proud of my boy, for dedicating himself to this project. I know it was a long 2.5 years but it was worth every day of those years. Just to beable to see a suffering child feel better abiut themselves during a health crisis.
