I think that part of your success is also that you have a good focus on what you like to blog about. You have joined a science community and people who are interested in science can follow your posts and find that their interests are met here. Even this post, which helps out newbies has reference to the science community. In effect you have become an important member of the community that you have joined and added to the success of your community.
