This post came as an idea after reading grahnite's post.
It seems as though there are a lot of posts about Steemit on Steemit. Now, most of these are probably legit, but I'd bet a large number of them are forced, simply because "Steemit" is the top trending tag. The fact that we can see which tags are trending means that we can choose to write about what's popular instead of what's interesting.
I would definitely expect the quality of content on this site to go up if the top trending tags are hidden, since then people would write about things that interest them instead of writing about whatever's trending on the site.
Any thoughts?
I feel like this is a really good idea! I think the reasoning behind having a top trending tag is because most social media sites have them so they're trying to keep the same features. Since we want unique, varying posts on SteemIt, would be better off taking that away.

And even if we still want to be a little bit similar to other social media sites in order to ease the transition for new users, we can at least present the trending tags in some random order so that it's not that obvious which of them are the top tags.

I don't know what to think about steemit!
When you inflate a balloon, you’re putting gases, in this case steem, into an elastic container. As you add more gas, the pressure inside the balloon increases, and in response, the balloon expands…up to a point, that it burst!
