[Steemit-Tip] Tips for new Steemians

After being on Steemit for 2 months I’ve spend a lot of time writing and editing posts to be useful for other and new users here. Most of my posts are to help minnows and I like to continue doing that, so I’ve made a list of tips that can really help you kickstart your journey here. It are tips based on my experience and my mistakes. So learn from them and don’t make the same mistake!

When you begin you need to understand Steemit

Steemit has a steep learning curve so learning about the platform is essential to succeed. It’s not a requirement of course, but learning about the basics on how it works and the technique behind it is actually pretty fascinating. An easy thing to get up to speed is to read the Steemit White Paper . The information is quite valuable but can be pretty hard to understand. It took me some time as well. Besides that you can check out my blog with other tips to gain some quick knowledge.

Furthermore Steemit does have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions), in which you can check out specific points. But the best source would be the community. The community is very open and eager to help out. Check out veterans (mostly above 50+ rep) because they made their mark here and spend quite some time on Steemit already.

A good source of getting followers: The #Introduceyourself tag.

I did not do this at first and still regret it! It’s your first impression towards other users and as you might now yourself, first impressions count. Take your time to write a kick ass introduction and be unique! It’s a great way to get attention and followers to read your content. Tell them the stuff you get excited about and your plans on Steemit. If you’re interested in Gaming and want to write about it, then say it! You might get Followers that like gaming!

When you write your introduction post you have to include that ‘Introduceyourself’ tag as first ;)

Let’s experiment!

When you start out you have interest and things you want to write about. You might like photography, gaming, movies, music and more. Just experiment with those different topics and see what sticks! Try it out and see what gives you the most engagement in the community but also what you really like. Perhaps you like photography better than music. Then just to photography stuff! Don’t be afraid to make ‘mistakes’ because here on Steemit, nothing is a mistake. (Well… except making posts that make no sense and have no value. But that’s common sense.. right…?)

Don’t publish 5 times a day!

When I started out I was super stoked about writing. I had no previous experience with blogging but had experience with SEO. So I wanted to start writing tons of articles and wanted to post, post and then post some more content. But meanwhile it didn’t got the engagement that I thought it would have. People don’t like spam and when you write more dan 3-5 posts per day, it loses quality because you don’t focus on that post you made. Just post 1, maybe 2 articles a day!

Read, Read and read some more before you publish!

You have to proofread your post in order to make it perfect. Don’t be a sloppy author that doesn’t care. Your English should be on fleak and your game should be perfect. When you read your own blog post you must be proud of it! You don’t have to be a great writer, but just have knowledge about grammar to have that on point. If you’re not sure, let someone else proofread it as well.

You’ve posted, now ENGAGE!

Well that sounds a bit like a first person shooter. But no, really, engage with the community and you can do that on several channels.

• We have Steemit Chat That’s the official chat from Steemit!
  You can use all 3 or just one but you can promote your posts there and talk with other Steemians.

Don’t carelessly upvote everything

Your upvotes are important. Your upvote might be worth $0.01 or $5+ but every vote counts! You have to upvote content that you really like and are interested in. When you do so you can also comment on those blogposts and interact with others. Also, you have Voting Power, and with each vote you cast your voting power is drained with 2%.
