Initial Thoughts On Steemit After A Week Or So

in steemit •  7 years ago  (edited)

I really hope Steemit takes off in the way I think it will. I love the disruptive nature of this platform.

I love the way you are rewarded for great content, curation, and engagement. That's the way it should be.

Compare Steemit to blogging

In the early 2000s great content did find its way to the top. And the internet was a great and quirky place.

Now, the internet is great, but it ain't quirky.

Around about 2012 something happened. Google gave up on being a search engine and decided to rank only big brand websites in their popular search results. Now, sadly, only 16 core companies dominate the most popular Google search results

Social media sites are no better.

Compare Steemit to other platforms

Let's look at Facebook, for example.

Not only you have to work for Facebook by providing your best content, they also whore out your information to advertisers, you get served ads, you and your content effectively makes other people rich – you also have to pay Facebook to get seen by your following.

Steemit wins hands down

Not only are you rewarded in cash for your best content but you are also rewarded for positive engagement.

While other online platforms tend to have a lot of bubbles and flame wars,  Steemit rewards positive engagement with people even if you don't share their opinions.

Steemit really does have a great and supportive community

I started blogging in 2006 and it was years and years before I made money. So I don't expect to make money straight away from Steemit.

But I'm going to hang around here for the long term and see what happens.

I always believe it’s worth to try something new consistently and for a while otherwise you’ll never really get to understand anything.

That's how I see Steemit after a week or so or hanging on this platform.

And I gotta thank Steemian @fredrikaa for his inspiration.

Great post @robcubbon ! And thank you for mentioning me :)

It has been a pleasure engaging with positive people like yourself. I know we are only getting started on this journey! So let us collectively co-create an even more positive, engaging and productive platform going forward!

Happy to connect with anyone here who share this view, and want to mutually benefit from growing together on steemit!

I also hope steemit takes off, I can see a lot of potential.

Also I noticed a typo "only 16 core companies are dominate the most popular Google search results. ".

FYI while not a typo and more contextual you could use a tool like grammarly to spot this for you :) Hope that tip gives you some value. One of my favourite free tools.

Hey @davidalexander I have fixed the typo and thank you for pointing it out. I did find Grammarly would slow down Chrome though and Steemit is slow enough as it is lol :) but thanks for the suggestion

No problem. You are probably right about Grammarly but think you can also use their website and do it that way so as to not require their addon? Just a thought / back up option if you wanted but might disrupt your workflow.

Cheers

We gotta be in it to win it. I echo much of what you said, Rob. If you're creating content anyway, might as well build that content on a platform that rewards you in money and in growing influence. Steem on!

Steemin' on with you, @daveespino

Couldn't agree more!

i liked your video short & clear! I'm new here too!

thank you @semillabesada

Hi Rob, I was eagerly awaiting this post from you. To find out your thoughts on Steemit.

You have been blogging a long time on your own site, will you continue to do this?

I intend on sticking around too, I see it as long term investment paid for with my time

I have pined this post to a new board I have on Pinterest, hoping to get more people aware of the platform (and generate some traffic for us minnows)

Hello @paulag yes I'll continue here for a while. I'm actually quite enjoying it. I know if I keep on doing these to-camera videos I'll eventually get better at them. We'll see :)

Mate, Spot on! Glad to make your acquaintance! I've only been on here a couple weeks longer than you, but you put it so nicely I thought I would say hello. It's kindof like the hundredth monkey phenomena, in a way. This summer should prove interesting since things like this tend to take off once they get to a critical mass. And with a year under its belt and countless of success stories to point to, people can now better understand the platform thanks to their beta testing and tribulations, and now, thanks to good posts and videos like this. Well done. You are going to do extremely well here, methinks. Cheers @ecoknowme

thanks for your quick response @ecoknowme. I've followed you because I like to do a bit of Chi Kung although I don't do much these days. Yes, who knows when it'll reach that critical mass tipping point. There might be a great new success story that really grabs peoples' attention or something. But, as you say, it's interesting. So I'm hanging around :) Thanks for your comment

Sure I'll start those threads soon too. There are a few news stories already out there.

but I think the word of mouth is the key. I have reached out to a good 30 active social media users/bloggers/authors artists etc who are giving the goods for free. No need. Plus I have about 3-4 friends so fired up they are doing the same to lure people over.... I also wrote these 2 posts which were my equivalent eureka moments a while back:

Also did not know about using the @randowhale and @minnowbooster will try that!

Pay @randowhale and @minnowbooster 2SBD each with the post link in the Memo and they'll upvote you for a roughly similar amount. I also get an upvote via the PAL network on Discord app. There seem to be a few of these hacks for newbies out their to get a helping hand from whales.

I like the article by @wakeupsheeps and I've followed. Alexa has Steemit 4,012th in the world and 1,240th in the United States.

Look at Steemit on Google Trends as well.

Up and up.

:)

Yes, I'm getting more people to join me here.

thanks, Steem on!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Rob!

And I totally second you: elsewhere, it may take years of blogging to finally make a little bit of profit. The reward on some posts here on Steemit may be misleading, and may lead some to think that it is easy money on Steemit.

After looking around and heavily engaging here on Steemit for a few weeks now, I know it is NOT easy.

But the potential of making a decent profit is there. In Dutch we say: "De aanhouder wint, which means that one who is persistent, keeps going for it again and again, will eventually be rewarded.

That is my plan, and I am happy to hear that this is also yours. It's all about building now. And I trust we will both build a loyal following here eventually, by publishing quality content consistently.

SteemON!

@livenowandwow yeah, I can see Steemit attracting a lot of people who think they'll make a fast buck but then we get bored after a few weeks. A lot of things are like that online and I've always known that you really have to stick at something and even then you can't guarantee anything.

We shall see.

Love that Gif!
