What's Going to Happen to all the "Abandoned" Steemit @ Handles? Why are so many taken at 25 with no Content?

Something I notice is that many "desirable" Steemit username handles are taken, but look to be abandoned or have never had any content posted on them.

I was curious what the deal with them is. Did someone buy them up planning to sell them later? Are they owned by Steemit itself?

I suppose in a sense it's like any other social media platform, oftentimes Twitter or Instagram or Youtube will have a channel name you would like to use taken and you just have to be creative and find something else.

Was just curious about this though if anyone wants to share their thoughts on this or who knows why there are so many abanded usernames?

Fucking squatters... they are everywhere, and Steemit is no different my friend.

Yes people sell the accounts. Holding until they're worth more is sure

Maybe they've been reserved to be sold later, should steemit become a landslide success.

Most likely this.

There may be a username's black market... or will there be.

What does the (number) represent? was always wondering. Thought it changed through time

It's your reputation score. They use some way to calculate your reputation score based on upvotes, interaction, etc. but if you aren't posting or commenting, then it will just stay at 25.

Makes sense now. Thank you

Looks like you're onto something. Whatever the motifs are, it seems like back to the dot com bubble with the crazy purchasing of domain names. Nevertheless, it's a sign that people believe in steemit and are planning for the future.
