Steem Saturday South Africa

My account of Steem Saturday South Africa is not going to cover much of the technical jargon that was obviously discussed on the day. I am rather just going to cover the event from a social point of view.

The photo above was taken at 06h30 on the morning of 29 October 2016, just before my son @starblaze and I departed to the First Ever Steem Saturday World Wide !! Impressive I would say.

enter image description here

We covered the 40km to the venue in no time discussing the day that lied ahead, with great anticipation. We looked forward to meet all the Steemians. The venue pictured above was looking impressive in the early morning light.

@starblaze doing some shenanigans in front of the Steem banner indicating the way to the venue.

enter image description here
We were of the earlier arrivers being met by the friendly faces of @naomi.louise and @jacor who were some of the main organizers of the event. The registration went very efficiently and professionally. Thank you once again for a great event.

One of the first people we bumped into was the man himself @ned. We really enjoyed talking to him, and I think he also enjoyed his time in South Africa. Some people on Steemit was wondering where he was, here is the proof that he was busy on business in South Africa, working on getting extra value for Steemit.

enter image description here
We then proceeded to some early morning snacks and drinks, in my case mostly coffee! (All for free, thank you @jacor)

enter image description here
@robertm did the mc-ing job and did a great job of it, here he is introducing @ned.

enter image description here
Here @ned is giving the opening address, sorry for the bad quality photos, I was sitting at the back, and zoomed in quite a bit to get the shots, and I was just using my phone as camera. He covered all the advantages of block chain technology and the Steem platform. You will get more technical coverage of the event from the organizers, I will not attempt to steel their thunder.

enter image description here
Next up was @gavvet who still holds the number one reputation ranking world wide on steemit. He told us that crypto currency is the new revolution and how it will change the way the world work. He also gave a short overview of the history of computers up to where we are withe the World Wide Web and block chain,

enter image description here
Next up was Jan Valk and Sakkie van Wijk who covered the obstacles of financing in Africa and how Steem can be a solution to many of the obstacles encountered.

enter image description here
At 10h00 we breaked for some snacks and drinks again, all for free, again thank you @jacor. Then it was back to business again.

enter image description here
Next up was Ceaser Siwale, covering the challenges of transacting across borders in African countries.

enter image description here
Lorien Gamaroff spoke on crowd funding using block chain technology and crypto currency. He also covered how this will eliminate a huge portion of the admin fees and costs of getting the funds to where it is needed.

enter image description here
Ricard Goncalves @steemdrive also covered crowd funding and told us all on his campaign to erect some steemit billboards, in various parts of the world. Imagine a South African had to erect a bill board in both New Zealand and the USA!! Well done @steemdrive and the crowd of steemians world wide that funded the project.

Next he also spoke on @steemsports where one can bet on the outcome of sporting events across the world, and win Steempower.

@ned did the closing address of the event, covering some of the new innovations to be introduced.

After closure we took some photos after which we went for lunch, also for free thank you @jacor!! At lunch a lot of socializing and discussions to place.

enter image description here

We also bumped into some unexpected visitors like Adam Meister @bitcoinmeister in the photo below. You can check out some of his videos on youtube.

Below are some of the steemians having lunch.

Below is my plate of food, basically the opposite of a vegetarian meal, mostly meat, with some game meat e.g. impala, wildebeest and warthog in the mix, only in Africa!!

Please watch out for the more official posts of the day, which will surely be posted by the organizers. All in all a wonderful day was had by all present. I believe there is a very good future ahead for Steemit, just stay positive and keep on promoting the platform.

Happy steeming and come to visit our beautiful country South Africa.

Thank you for sharing this! It's great too see that stuff is happening, and I'm delighted to hear about crowdfunding, and ideas in relation to Steemit.
We need to use Steemit as a tool to do good, because it's what the world needs, and Steemit will also benefit greatly, in terms of reputation.
