Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

Long or short can do. But I've noticed the older you are here and more reputation you have, you can risk longer posts as you've got loyal readership. Others make their posts not too long but interesting. But you can always decide which works for you. Welcome to steemit.
