Automatic cancelling of power down: Is there a ghost in the Steemit machine?

I was expecting to receive 200 Steem a few hours ago at the perfect time to sell during this pump, but the power down mysteriously cancelled itself moments before the SP moved to Steem.

Around 3 months ago the same thing happened. I was receiving 500 Steem a week after working very hard for a year to build the account up from nothing and again, the power down cancelled itself at a most inconvenient time.

To make matters even more confusing, my 2nd account @samstonehilltube also automatically stopped powering down a few hours ago.

See if you can solve this mystery before I reach my conclusion...

I checked a few friends accounts which are also powering down to see if the same thing had happened to them and it had not. Which makes me feel as if this ghost seems to have its sights set on me in particular.

I call it a ghost because there is no memo in my wallet to indicate the power down has been cancelled in either account, yet it has most certainly been stopped.

Ever smaller payments...

Just to clarify, when I hit power down again, my weekly payments will be re-divided by 13 and will therefore be much smaller than they were before. I have gone from receiving 500 Steem a week to 200 Steem a week and when I hit power down again, this will be reduced to 70 Steem a week.

Whist there is a side of me which is grateful for my ghost forcing me to long hold Steem, the other more logical side of me has spent the last few hours searching for an answer as to why this might be...

The 'Ghost' revealed!

It dawned on me moments ago that last week may well have been my 13th payment since I last hit power down.

I still have over 1000 SP left in the account because I have been busy making more of it since the total amount was divided into 13 equal payments.

Be aware...

With the mystery solved I must warn people that the week which follows the end of your powering down period is a misleading one, because it is still counting down the days to the moment we grow accustomed to knowing as the moment we receive our Steem, yet it will not pay out as usual. It will simply stop. And you will most likely miss one week of receiving Steem to transfer out of your wallet and sell for BTC, which if you are living on it like I am, can be a little uncomfortable.

The solution

Plan your power down on a callendar. This way you will know when you have had your 13th payment and when it is time to cancel the power down before the final mysterious week which yields nothing, and power down again being prepared for the smaller payments you are going to receive.

Exact same thing happened to me. It was last week of my powerdown and I was suppose to get steem on 7th day, I was excited like always, but what I saw is ~ my power down got cancelled automatically. And now you are reporting the same thing make me thing that it's some kind of bug that Steemit developers have to fix or they did this on purpose.

Am so pleased I'm not the only one!

We both know that feeling of lost disappointment when we don't get that payment we become so used to... because it feels like fun to me :)

Anyway, Steemit have designed a very clever system to incentivise the long hold... and frankly I'm grateful for this. Probably would have spent all my Steem a long time ago otherwise!

Absoultely! They have designed it so cleverly and so intelligently! It really keeps our self-discipline in check.

I am also very grateful for this platform! :) We are learning so much about this platform from the experience we are gaining here.

I am now keeping everything on track. Thank you very much for giving us this idea to plan our power-down on a callander. ☺

was planning to do a powerdown and i would have been frustrated if it had cancelled, now i know and will plan accordingly, thanks

Just mark the date of your final payment on the 13th week from the moment of powering down.

When you receive the 13th payment, stop the power down and restart it...

Simple ;)

This is strange. I've powered down only once, when i needed money to buy my new camera. It was no problem. Now i rather power up instead of powering down.

I just love my weekly payments! I'm addicted to crypto trading now you see, and it's a little injection every week I can put into a new coin of choice. I believe the market has been on a down trend for a while and is just about to turn now....

Good information! Hope this ghost doesnt appear again

It wasn't a ghost in the end. Just my stupidity!

Thanks for your valuable and gradual post about power-down,mystery& so on.We can gather a lot of information by your post.
By dint of, we can increase our skill that is beneficial for all steemians.
I will always visit your site & wait for your upcoming post.
Thanks @samstonehill
@Resteem & follow has done.

As I was reading the first thing that came to my mind was some sort of stoppage as a result of the hack your account went through, but ya you are most certainly right. I am attempting a long hold, but it will be good to know this when I do need to power down. Hope things have been good for you!

That's very observant of you. Yes, the first time it stopped was exactly the moment I had my account returned to me so I assumed Steemit had stopped the power down for me... but then it happened again.

Thankfully the mystery is solved now and I will be more prepared next time.

All things are fab with us now we've settled into a new country. Now for learning french!

Certainly glad the answer came to you on this one. I have a long way to go before I even think of doing a power down, but good to know it is best to calculate the entire process for timing the 13 weeks.

If you are relying on the weekly payments it's important, otherwise it's no big deal really ;)

as always, sharing lost of knowledge and important info. Thanks for sharing my friend.

Doing my best to go with the flow....
