Does STEEM POWER over-ride reputation score?

in steemit •  8 years ago

I saw a little down vote war going on and one users rep is in minus figures, that user bought a lot of STEEM and powered up, I assume in an attempt to overwhelm the reputation score.

But surely it won't work that way will it. Or will self upvote start to increase rep?

I'm still figuring this out myself. I feel like I have been stuck on the same rep score forever lol :(

It will increase, I dont remember how I got to 52, just be active and get upvotes and you will be fine

I wondered about that too. With the "party" referenced showing a (-3) rating, I would think their votes would be about the same as a brand new minnow (25) rating, regardless of how much SP they held. That would seem more fair so that bad behavior could actually be deterred. if they can still throw their voting weight around why would they care if they are a (-3) or (-50)?

I think below zero rep, your posts are already hidden due to low weight, not sure

Well, I am still being Spam Flagged by our angry friend and each downvote wipes out several up-votes from people at around my rep. This seems to indicate that rep isn't having a big enough affect on voting power, which will only encourage abuse of the system.

Not having a big following means that I am only getting anything from curation and comments.

I don't have an answer but commenting so I can keep track in case someone does.

The value of your upvote is dependent on your Steem power only.

Upvotes to your posts comments will increase your reputation based on the Steem power of those upvoting.

I guess technically you can up your rep by voting on yourself but couldn't say for sure.

The reputation of those upvoting is also important.

That's interesting, I thought it rested solely on the stake of the user.

I'll have a look into this further. Thanks for the info.

They will still have to earn reputation. I don't know if self votes count. They shouldn't really

A good reputation is all what a girl needs

all for nothing
self voteing is gone HF20

Being an early investor in STEEM post Steemit's launch, but new to the STEEMIT Platform I moved my STEEM onto the platform and converted it to SP so that I wouldn't lose out due to the 9.5% inflation. And then I started experimenting with what I could do on STEEMIT, including what upvoting myself does.

And, yes, it does seem that Self Voting increases my Reputation as retarded as that is. Rep should be based on community votes for what we author and comment on. I really don't get why self votes are weighted in this way.
