No longer upvoting your own posts

There were a bunch of updates to Steemit recently, like the ability to delete posts.

A more subtle change I've noticed, is that you no longer upvote your own posts by default.

So should you vote for your own posts? The way I see it, if I'm sure that my post will be very successful, then I should vote, else I shouldn't. So the new default makes sense, yes?

But what exactly does voting for your own post do? Can you even get a curation reward on top of authors reward?

Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.
