Steem Power required to increase an upvote $0.01 in value

in steemit •  8 years ago

According to calculations I just did based on the Steem Dollar tool, as of 9/11/2016 at 1:00 am CST, the answer is 190.48 steem power equals $0.01 in upvote power.

Using the Steem Dollar tool; which can be found here (thank you @mauricemikkers for building this)

http://www.steemdollar.com

It calculates that when I am at 100% voting power, an upvote from me is currently worth $0.010263027107793.

I currently have 196.489 steem power, so that means I only need 96.94% of that for an exact $0.01 value increase… which is currently 190.48 steem power.

This is slightly changing/fluctuating constantly, and I’m interested to see how that calculation changes over time. Also interested in seeing if this is actually accurate. Today is my first day really digging into the Steemit platform and this is my first post -- so for all I know, the calculator I'm basing my findings on could be completely wrong, and I don't have enough experience to know firsthand if these numbers look right based on my account, yet. Does this calculation + tool that I’m basing the calculation on seem to hold up for you? Or did I just do some worthless spreadsheeting? :)

Also: Thank you to @fabien for creating the Steem API that @mauricemikkers is using to power the Steem Dollar tool.

I have about 1500 SP and it's only worth about $0.01

Thanks for your feedback! Wow, that would put this calculator wayyyy off, then. This says you should be at $0.06. http://www.steemdollar.com/dollar_per_vote.php?name=michaeldodridge

That site shows me at $0.79 per vote (with $50,000 SP)... I just upvoted you and it added $0.37 to you (but perhaps my voting power is down). In any case, even at $50k it is not a massive amount... the whales are where the big money comes from at the moment... but I suspect that will change dramatically over the coming year as many of us gain power from our involvement on Steem and the whales power down.

Thank you for your feedback @dollarvigilante

Welcome to Steemit, Sean! Looking forward to your #introduceyourself post. Happy to see another friend in real life join this playground. :)

Thank you @lukestokes!

Hmmm... the fact that upvoting my own post didn't increase the value by $0.01 makes me think the tool I based these calculations on is suspect. Interested to hear other feedback.

Pretty nifty. Will try it out once I have some more power :)

Hopefully the tool will be updated and I can recalculate. As it stands, it seems to be consistently overestimating the value of steem power.

Thanks for reading / commenting!

I wonder if they still playing with the algorythm for steem power. I could see they would adjust and change it almoast weekly.

I am also seeing that it depends on the value of steem/sbd/sd. Votes that were worth considerably more two weeks ago have declined noticeably in light of steem value declining as of late.

Hi, I will be look forward to your post. Thanks for letting me know the site!

When you upvote someone, does the power go down?

So far, my votes seem to do nothing -- I'm still too new at this to be able to answer you correctly at this point!

Pretty sure Yes on that. That's why it gives you two figures.. the smaller ne is "at 100% Voting power" and the top one is at the moment you entered the user name.

Thanks for the info....made me realize that I am long way from my vote being worth $0.01 :-P

You're welcome -- we'll see if the calculations hold up, though. I'm skeptical, so far.

Great to see you here @tracemayer! Hope all is going wonderfully well for you.

Definitely does not work.

Upvoting my own post added $0.12 onto my post...but this 'tool' said $0.017....
