My First Steemit Purchase: Thanks, STEEMIT!

in steemit •  7 years ago

I'm the sort of person who goes for years with the same wardrobe.

I tend not to buy things for myself unless I absolutely need it.

Growing up, I knew not to ask for things if it wasn't around Christmas or my birthday -- if I asked for something, I would just be told to wait until those times to ask again.

So that's how I was raised. And even now that I'm an adult and I make my own money, I still have that ingrained sense that "that isn't for me" or "I don't need to buy that."

It's so bad that I remember listening to the budget guru, Dave Ramsey, talking about making a monthly allotment for clothing, stating it as a necessity, and to give it a hundred or more dollars per month, and I just laughed. Or when my high school home economics teacher tried to tell me that I NEED to budged for a cable TV membership, because there's no way I would live on my own without cable TV.

However, with the big payouts I've been getting on Steemit, I decided to splurge and actually buy a pair of shoes to replace my year old pair with huge holes in them.

Thanks for the shoes, Steemit!!

This is just a simple pair of leather (possibly pleather) Sketchers.

They're slip-ons with laces. And they are actually super comfortable.

I know it's not much, but for me to give myself the permission to spend more than $60 on something that isn't groceries, a bill, or an oil change is kind of a big deal.
:D

Here are some more shots.

I spent some Steemit money on myself!!

Celebrate with me!

And, of course, dance with Leo

Cool! Congrats!

Congrats, you're living the life ;-)

But I can absolutely relate to what you are saying. I, myself, used to have a probably spending, even rational spending for necessities. Keeping a budget with a budgeting app called YNAB has helped me tremendously.

Each month I allocate money into several categories and I feel "safe" spending it because I know exactly how much I can spend while also knowing that all other spending I've also budgeted for, so there won't be any surprises.

This is the first time in my life I've manage to hold on to some of my money consistently and I finally sort of feel like I've got this. That being said, I also have been living below my means for the past 2 years, because I believe it is the only way to get ahead: spend less than you earn :-)

Congratulations! Hopefully I can get enough to buy myself something nice one day ;)

What an awesome gift to yourself!

There ya go! Congrats! Lookin' good!

$100 a month for clothes though? I don't see any reason one should have to buy new clothes every month. Then again, all my clothes are falling apart. XD

Shoes though, shoes are definitely a necessity. I have had the same pair of steel toed synthetic leather boots from vegetarian shoes for like 6 years though.

Congrats on the new shoes. You should try your best to loosen up a bit on your extreme budgeting. hehe You deserve to treat yourself even on non holidays. :)

Good to see you enjoying your income mate! Shoes is a good choice too, if you don't take care of your feet they won't be able to get ya to where you need to be!

Me, I've got two pair. Both about two years old. A pair of lowtop sneakers that I got a great price on and a pair of ankle high steel toe from Walmart.

Splurge a little more and get some work boots/shoes. Always good to have a pair.

as long as its in your means spoil yourself more often life is short!
