Unlike humans, flamingos find more comfort when standing with one leg and take a preferred sleeping position. Although the reason why the bird is standing on one leg remains vague and hard-hitting, some scientists attribute it to body temperature regulation, while others believe it may reduce muscle stress.
Why Flamengo birds stand on one leg?
Biology scientists at the Georgia Tech University of Biology Letters say that instead of using the effective muscle force to balance on one leg - just as humans do, which makes them feel tired - the unique musculoskeletal system of flamingo birds helps gravity to be the key to all.
The skeleton of the Flamingo seems to be the key. Flamingos have two main joints on their legs, just as humans do. But what you see backwards in the Flamengo leg is not the calf, but the ankle, and the bird's rider is hidden within the body parts of the bird in the fleshy part of his body.
When the Flamengo is ready to fall asleep, one of the legs is raised and his body moves instinctively, so that his sole leg is not below his waist, but is positioned completely under the center of his weight. At the same time the bird pulls the other leg to the top to flex the knee and rest the flamengo on his leg. All joints return to their places.
Scientists point out that if you look at the bird from the front while it is standing on one leg, you can see the foot directly below the body, which means that the leg takes an inner angle, and this is the position that you must take in order to activate the mechanical stay in balance.
While flamengo remains perfectly balanced throughout its sleep, it is gravity that leads the rest of the role and helps the bird maintain its position.
"This study is experimental and interesting, but it needs to be followed up with more research," said Dr. Keithlyn Kait, Flamingo expert at Pajama Exeter.
"Although the authors point to one foot that will save and save energy, it does not help these birds maintain heat," she said. Other research suggests that in order to save energy, we will expect Flamengo to constantly use the rest of one leg.
