HOW MANY KIWIS ARE HERE ON STEEMIT?steemCreated with Sketch.

New Zealand is a small country with a reputation for being early adopters

new-zealand-high-definition4b.jpg

I’m curious to see how many other Kiwis there are on Steemit. Nine months ago @kiwideb asked a similar question, but she didn’t find very many. To be fair, nine months ago Steemit was like an obscure cult, and there wasn’t very many of anyone.

https://steemit.com/new-zealand/@kiwideb/are-there-kiwis-in-the-house

Now could be a better time to find all the Kiwi Steemers. We could be a new sub-cult on Steemit, and could share helpful information – like where is the best place to get deals on sheep drench.

2017-06-01_101609b.jpg

To get things rolling, here is a list of the Kiwis we have found so far (in order of when they first joined Steemit). Hopefully there are lots more we haven’t discovered yet.

Some interesting stuff about New Zealand

The human population of NZ is 4.6 million (NZ is similar in land size to Japan or the UK)
Auckland-Cityb.jpg

NZ has more helicopters per capita than any other country

Flying_over_the_glaciers_1b.jpg

NZ is considered one of the more liberal nations in the world with same-sex marriage and prostitution being legal, the driving age is 16, the consensual age for sex is 16, and the drinking age is 18

1467358197421b.jpg

No place in NZ is more than 140 km (87 miles) from the sea. (NZ is quite long and narrow)

West-Coast-Beachb.jpg

NZ has won more Olympic gold medals, per capita, than any other country (rowing, athletics, and sailing are where Kiwis kick arse)

14430454b.jpg

Only 5% of NZ's population is human - the rest are animals

sea-lions-1600b.jpg

NZ has the highest density of sheep of any country

Flock-Sheepb.jpg

30% of NZ’s land area is National Parks (which have no sheep or people)

Pizza Hut doesn’t get its mozzarella cheese from Italy - it buys it all from Taranaki and uses NZ cheese globally

1456196260736b.jpg

NZ has the highest number of golf courses per capita in the world

course3b.jpg

Rugby player Wayne Shelford got his scrotum ripped open mid-game in a bad tackle. He was taken off the field with one testicle literally hanging out, got stitched up on the bench and continued the game. (Being staunch is a very desirable attribute in NZ)

1485479933035b.jpg

New Zealand has more Scottish pipe bands per capita than any other country in the world. (We have no idea why)

hero-43260b.jpg

The most popular car in NZ is a Toyota Corolla 2003 hatchback (20% of all cars in NZ are Toyota, 70% of NZ cars are silver, white, grey, or black because most Kiwis have a fear of colours, and the average NZ vehicle age is 14 years)

576435684b.jpg

NZ is home to more species of penguins than any other country

What is a Kiwi?

Kiwi-bird-pageb.jpg

In NZ a Kiwi refers either to a New Zealander, or the bird. In NZ the fruit is never called a Kiwi – it is always called Kiwifruit.
There are two types of Kiwifruit, the original green ones, and the much nicer golden ones (Zespri) And no, we don't eat the skins!

I'm at work so don't have my gummies. We got beefies not sheep (oh and they actually belong to the neighbor...was being cheeky) My sister has a farm if that counts? Anyway nice to see everyone on here, even my home town Tauranga!!

Yup just to let you know I am kiwi as well. It is great t see some of the other kiwi members listed here as well. Steem on fellow kiwis we may not be able to fly but we can sure as hell steemit with the best of them!

Nice to know everyone. Is there something like THIS already? I realised that we more than I though. Cheers

We are everywhere!

Congratulations @steemitboard! You have commented on this post and have been rewarded with another NZ image :

Well , I live here but wasn't born here , does that still count? :)

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

Definitely - I wasn't actually born in NZ either, but I have lived here all my life.

I think anyone who considers themself a Kiwi is one. I've added you to the list now so post some sheep pics :)

That's a pretty cool thought :) .... but as for sheep pics , hmm not sure I have any hahah , well maybe somewhere . But , I do have a story.

Right , so a while back now , I was helping my now late father-in-law at his farm. A couple of sheep went into the creek and wouldn't come out. So , I was trying to help him get these sheep out , and I don't know what the heck I'm doing , I grew up in the 'burbs man! Which at one point I had stated out of frustration , to which I got a reply of 'I'm gonna make a farmer out of you yet!' (or something similar :) )

So finally we actually get one out of the creek. The smaller one btw , and then it's starts running away , so he tells me to get after it to get it to go in the right direction back to the rest of the sheep. So .... what does it do???! .... Runs right back into the #$% creek!! .... Ya gotta be kidding me! ...

And what did I get from all of this .... So ... sheep ... ok so I don't really mind them I guess ... they're alright in the end. But ... and this is a big but ... If you don't have basic survival on the top or near the top of your priorities ... hmmm ... well I'm not so sure how well that works out.

(In the end we did get both the sheep out)

Sheep are not the sharpest tools in the shed!

Nice good info to know - following you :)

You really are into sheep aren't you? :)

Yep i love the little buggers - i wish i could save the million odd that die at work but they taste so good - NZ Lamb is world class

@sift666 Another one joined the crew. Still finding my way around and so far, I'm finding it fun. Add me to the list.

Will do - I was just checking out your dogs arse...

Where do you live?

@sift666 Strathmore. You?

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Kilbirnie - we are the eastern suburbs Steemers then!

There will be another one soon. Got a friend who signed up yesterday. He is in Kilbirnie too.

Great - we are taking over!

Great article, you have a new follower!
Up and resteemed of course!

Cheers - I'll bet NZ is a bit different to Hungary!

Hi @kalemandra following you as well

I love this!!!

Have already started following you but will definitely resteem! 😁 Cant wait to find and discover more like-minded kiwis.

Tauranga at night:

😍 And thats my home.

I've been checking up on all the Kiwis to see where we are all from!

Really??

That's insane!

I can't believe it!

What is the world coming to?

I blame the immigrants, and Trump and global warming.

Something needs to be done about this.

It's totally out of order and I really think the time has come for ALL kiwis to rise up and take a stand about this outrageousness.

NZ $110 for Combination Sheep Drench!

It's not champagne for crying out loud!

hehehe

Any yes, I do eat the skins ;-)

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Nobody eats the skins! - That's gross

Do you eat the skins on bananas as well?

We need to get a bulk deal - start a Steemit drench buyers club

Great post! Hello Steemit kiwis!!!

Here's a pic of your hometown

Ha ha, yup, this is where I live at the moment!

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

It's an amazing place

hello! - following u

@kiwiscanfly, thanks, I've followed you back :)

Chur awesome post Bro... keep em posts coming.

Steem On! Kiwi

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Chur Bro :)

Bloody fantastic post - says SirKnight from across the Tasman.

Many thanks - I just saw your comments on another post and started following you yesterday,

I'll throw in an Aussie pic to make you feel more at home

Oh nice - thanks sift666. SK

Amazing post

Thanks - here is another scenic NZ pic because more is more!

Awesome

You know, I think I've tried to recruit more Kiwis than Filipinos, which is strange because I'm a Filipino living in the Philippines haha Looking at the list, I can't see any of the people I've talked to, so that's a bit saddening. I guess I'm just not a good salesman. They're mostly still stuck on the FB and Reddit mindset.

I always thought there were heaps of people in the Philippines?

You're right, there are a lot. Even though many people want to earn free money, there's really not a lot who would do it by writing original posts. I don't want Steemit to be flooded with people who post things that can be found elsewhere on the internet and beg people for follows and votes. We already have enough currently.

That says more about them than it does about your sales skills, I think.

If we keep on steeming facebook can be overcome!

I guess you're right. Makes me think what I could've done differently to change their mind.

No, no, that's taking it back on yourself. If they're not ready to hear it, nothing you can say will make any difference.

That makes sense. Oh well, it's their loss anyway!

Exactly!

awesome country. looks very beautiful

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

That sounds like an excuse to post another pic :)

For anyone who wants to see any of the photos in these comments at full size - just right click on them and select the top option - "Open image in a new tab" - some of them (like this one) are pretty big hi-res images

Woot. really digging this photo. Everything looks crisp and clear. Is New Zealand paradise? :)

In some ways - there are a few imperfections - but I'm just sticking to the good bits here!

Looks like paradise to me :)

Hi @sift666, very interesting post, thanks for sharing.

Kiwis often seem to have a lot in common with South Africans (except when it comes to Rugby which is more like war) and Canadians, along with a sort of historic sibling rivalry with Aussies.

You are right, and these days there are also a lot of South Africans staying in Kiwi land.

Yes - we can spot them a mile away :)

You can't miss the one you posted

There is something noticeable about them - with SA people in NZ it's the accent!

Great photo, a flying Rhino!!

And I always thought the Kiwi's have the accent!!

What do you mean? - Kiwis don't have accents, you must be getting us mixed up with Aussies :)

New Zealand is a spectacular country well worth a visit, been there twice from across the ditch and loved it. Cheers @silverbug

Doing your bit for NZ tourism!

Yeah, spent a fair amount when I was there, but well worth the money. It was a bit better back then the aussie$ was a lot stronger than the kiwi$ then, not like now. Cheers

Maybe one day it will be the same and we can buy Holdens and Fosters Lager dirt cheap!

Holden pulled out of Australia, and I think Fosters is owned by the Japanese. No cars manufactured here anymore mate, all gone to Thailand. Cheers

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

If Aussie car manufacturing is no more, I wonder if the Aus gov will open up Jap imports like in NZ - all our cars are five year old Jap imports so are cheaper than Aussie cars.

In fact Holdens are sort of status symbol cars here because they are all sold new and are rear wheel drive. Shame if they are no more. Fosters on the other hand I was kidding about - you can keep that :)

Never been a fan of Holden myself, more of a Ford fan, as for the fosters I wouldn't drink it even if you were shouting, LOL. I prefer James Boags instead, it's a great tassie drop. Cheers

Right I was forgetting the Aussie Ford vs Holden thing!
The NZ equivalent would be Toyota vs Nissan...

I had a Holden Torana once (many many years ago) and it was good for hooning - like this but painted in grey primer

Very good post... :)) and I want see this high mountains :))

That could go very well!

Yes it is very good .. :) I also want to an opportunity to go there :)

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

An awesome flight!

:))

Nice post! Glad to get to see and know all the other kiwis around Steemit! Will resteem and see if anyone else was missed out!

Anyone from Taranaki? I'm guessing not haha...

There has to be some - the Naki is NZ's geek hub!

Haha, let us wait and see!

When I posted that pic of those Naki bogans I was kidding, but then I remembered that all our websites are on the servers at Free Parking, as are most NZ websites, so New Plymouth really is the NZ geek epicenter...

https://www.freeparking.co.nz/

Oh really? I actually didn't know that! Lived in New Plymouth for years and years and never even realised it had such a big tech scene. Interesting!

Well it is home of the bogan too of course :)

Yeah yeah, of course! We have a good diversity and mix of people!

used to be - go the naki - following u

Awesome! Nice to meet you :) Will follow you too!

Totally going off - this is what I hoped would happen! :)

Well your hopes were on point! Thanks again for making this post haha.

It's worked pretty well so far :)

I don't live there, but my nephew-by-marriage got tired of all the crap he dealt with in his small southern town (not the same one I live in) about three or four years ago, just after the meth-related death of his older brother. So, he peaced out and moved to New Zealand. He married a local New Zealand girl back in December, so I think he's made your lovely nation his permanent home. He seems to love it there.

Glad to hear he escaped. An example of a small southern town in NZ could be Gore.

It's a bit cold down there but it has a very nice art gallery

Lovely. The whole country is just beautiful.

Yes it's pretty scenic - I just realised I haven't put any Wellington pics on this post

Oh my gosh! So beautiful!

If I do one more comment this post will have 100 comments - never had that many before!

Here is a pic of the bay down the road from where we live (it doesn't look like that at the moment because it's freezing cold and pissing down today)

Congratulations on your comment milestone. That's terrific! And, nice picture. :)

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

I must admit, half of them are from me, but what the hell, here is another picture:

Looks a great place to live, more pix please!

Awesome man, thanks for that!

Cool post! Where is the mixed race mention!? Our country is one of the only countries in the world to have equal rights between indigenous and european citizens. Kia Ora!

Yes we have that too!

(A bit different to Aus...)

Good post. Should get lots of comments.
Keep stemin.

A tidal wave of comments I'm answering like crazy :)

good on you. keep the flag flying.

I am a Dutchy in Papamoa New Zealand, nice post! @gerben

There is some sort of Dutch invasion going on isn't there?

You guys speak in some really freaky language that looks a bit like German but is utterly indecipherable!

Another Dutchy in NZ here - ready to take over the place, plant our flag and call it ours! If the Dutch navigator Abel Tasman, who discovered NZ, was brave enough to come onto land - all kiwis would be speaking Dutch ;-)

Isn't that the guy who missed the Cook Strait? :)

One heck of a foolish sailor ;)

Yes it is also growing really fast in The Netherlands. They say Dutch is the easiest language to learn for English talking people.

We are new to these infoseas. The Wench and Capt'n hail from owersea so here is a pic of our Pirate in Training. She is the true kiwi.
rsz_img_9578.jpg
We are also on minds and the dying hell beast FB.

Great post mate, I'm also a kiwi, feel free to check me out or follow. https://steemit.com/@crazyseanymph - we gotta stick together out there!

Can an one tell me how to re-steem this bloody thing?

You can't, as it's been paid out already. If I'd seen this when you posted it, you could have resteemed my later post with a bigger list of kiwis, but that's 8 days old now, so too late for that as well!

New Kiwi to Steemit.

It was pretty awesome here in 2016 and 2017 - but now it's a bit of a fuck up - hell my posts were better back then! Watch out for scams and bots - sadly there are very few Kiwis still posting here now

Thanks will follow
