Should You Upvote Memes on Steemit?

in steemit •  8 years ago  (edited)

ok by highlighting quotes from your post and from my reply the same way it is a little weird.

Did you read to the end before you fired off your half-cocked rant? Nowhere in that entire post did I once tell anyone else what to do, now did I? I asked a question to start a dialogue

Yes I did read the whole post before I commented on it. Why is my comment a half cocked rant but you post or reply isn't? you did not tell anyone what to do but you are trying to push an idea/philosophy on to the steemit "community". Yes you asked questions and you have been recieveing answers. like my comment on the post.

The quote you used from your post as to somehow showthat I didn't read the post does not cancle out what I said in any way really. so before I get to your next "half cocked rant" in this reply I will deal with your quote again.

I can't speak for all of you. The community will have to decide how to answer these questions.

no you cant speak for all of us and we know it. the "community" will have to decide, what community? There are a bunch of communities here on steemit. If you are not talking about the community you are in and trying to speak for then you are talking about everyone on steemit as a whole. if so them my point stands.

Just remember that you make Steem what it is.

yes and what has been going on with this whole idea that people are trying to push onto others is making people leave because they dont conform to what others consider quality.

The content which you choose to upvote becomes the bricks upon which Steem is built. Does it offer value?

yes, the only thing that matters is more blocks in the chain. the quality of the post does not matter it is the blocks added that does. so if we have 10x more posts that this "community" doesn't consider "quality" but they all are in the top pay out then it doesn't mater. all that matters is the blocks. with social media the idea is people using the system to add more blocks as blocks represent work done. without new people more posts more upvotes the chain does not gow faster and we have this stagnation and even drop in value. what you me or anyone else considers is quality/value post wise does not matter. the side you are talking about is all subjective. I might like stuff you don't like and vise versa. there is enough room for everyone on steemit if people would just stop this bullshit about what they think steemit should be.

ok now back to the reply where you put a quote of me saying

I support any post that is original...

I would contend that there is nothing original about the one-liners that are plastered across an image and re-posted ad nauseum.

subjective opinion. beside people bitching about what they think is good content is what steemit needs?

That was really the crux of the point which I was trying to make, in fact.

like I have been saying. its subjective. if someone didn't like the shit posts they wouldn't be getting upvotes.

My post has certainly succeeded in starting a conversation, hasn't it?

You are not starting the conversation on this but you are adding to it. I see 10 or moe posts a day about someones opinion on what steemit should be and what others should be posting to make value even though it is subjective.

Is there not value in that?

Yes there is value in that. a lot of value, it gives more information for people to look over so they can deciede on there own what they think is right. I did not say your post did not have value. infact the quote you are responding to says ill support any post that is original even if I dsagree with the post.

Otherwise we are all just shouting into an echo chamber without ever really listening to each other or considering any other point of view.

But what you are shouting about is trying to make it an echo chamber by limiting posts because of perceived quality. we should just upvote what we like and not try to tell others what we think should or shouldn't be upvoted.

The beauty of constructive discussion is that you may collectively reach new understanding regarding a subject. This is how you grow as a human being.

Yes I agree fully with this statement.

now while i am thankful for the reply this whole thin has just been one side step of it all but all good.

P.S.
the reason the pict in a meme is used at nasuium is because it isn't a meme till then, otherwise it trying to make a meme. a meme is when someone takes a pict from something and adds quotes from it and it sticks, then people take e same picture and add new words and the meme starts to evolve. after it spreads it becomes one of those pictures that everyone is putting words to that are kind of close to the original quote in some way but warped or funny way. There is a huge difference in making an original meme online and it becoming one of those picts everyone knows of when they go to a meme generator and grabbing one of the picts we already see constantly and using for a repy with a crap meme pict. both are fun but they are not in the same class as someone that really makes new memes or warps others new memes. it is an art for that has a uncontrollable evolution that happens to a real meme when it changes from seed to finished product.
so now with the bit about memes you can say i went on a rant.

I almost feel that a mic drop meme would actually be appropriate right here.

Ok, ok... :)

Shall we go back to antagonizing tax-loving statists? ;)

Remove the flag or I write a post about you trying to censor people on steemit.

LMFAO hey bro, don't censor my right to sensor you. I have a right to not only never see anything that hurts my feelings, but to prevent anyone else from ever being able to see it either! That's equality, bro.

We have a mute button. it is right next to the unfollow
