Mercedes Benz AMG G63 Price, Overview & Key Standard Features
The Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 puts out 585hp and 850nm from its 4.0 Bi-turbo V8. 0-100 in just 4.5 seconds with a electronically limited top speed of 220kmph
Mercedes has launched the new G 63 in India at Rs 2.19 crore (ex-showroom). They've decided to name the G 63 in accordance with the rest of their product range and call it the G-Class, the same suffix as the sedans. Mercedes has given its traditional off-roader all sorts of modern touches. It’s also lighter, bigger and much more tech-laden than the previous model. Although the new G-Class looks exactly like the previous one, everything about it is new – new platform, new engine and better off-road ability.
In terms of design, other than the LED headlamps and grille, everything else looks similar to the previous model. The G-Class still uses the traditional ladder-frame chassis but it is now 55 per cent stiffer than the previous model. The new G 63 is 53mm longer, 121mm wider and 65kg lighter than the previous model. This boost in size translates to better passenger comfort with more legroom – 35mm at the front and 150mm at the rear.
Mercedes has updated the interior too. Now, the new G-Class is equipped with most creature comforts that we see on the new S-Class. It gets twin 12-inch displays, a 15-speaker 590-watt Burmester sound system, heated front and rear seats, three-zone climate control and almost everything that you can expect from the German carmaker.
The old 5.5-litre V8 has been replaced with the 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8. And this is the same engine that powers the AMG GT R, but here it develops 578bhp and a peak torque of 850Nm. This power is enough for this 2.5-tonne behemoth to make the dash to 100kph in 4.5s. And oh, the new engine has a trick up its sleeves. When you are not using the full potential of the V8, it will shut down half the cylinders to improve fuel efficiency. The motor is mated to a nine-speed transmission to ensure seamless gear changes as well. There are three driving modes on offer (Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual) and three off-road modes (Sand, Trail and Rock). But, the G-Class was never meant for drag races; it was known for its ability to conquer any terrain, right? Along with an improved approach and departure angle, the ground clearnace has been increased by 241mm and wading depth has been increased as well to an incredible 700mm.
