A few days back, Triumph had unveiled the 2019 Scrambler and if you thought that wasn’t off-roady enough, then meet its big-hearted cousin, the Scrambler 1200. The Scrambler 1200 will be available in two variants – XC and XE. Both the motorcycles are meant for conquering all sorts of terrain, but the XE is more off-road focused than the XC.

In terms of design, the 1200 looks very similar to the 900. It gets the same LED headlamps and the same high-mounted exhaust system that we have seen on the 900. Lengthwise, the XC at 2,285 mm and the XE at 2,325mm are 160mm and 200mm longer than the 900. The new 1200 gets a second-gen TFT instrument cluster, keyless ignition, cruise control, turn-by-turn navigation system, heated grips, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port. And oh, if you want to shoot your hooliganism while riding the motorcycle, then Triumph has something specifically for you. The 1200 comes with a GoPro control System. With this, you can control your GoPro via the TFT screen and the switchgear. Co-developed with GoPro, Triumph claims that they are the first ones to use this feature on a motorcycle.

Powering the new Scrambler is a 1200cc, liquid-cooled motor that churns out 89bhp at 7,400rpm and 110Nm at 3,950rpm. This is the same engine that we have seen in the Thruxton 1200R. A six-speed transmission takes care of changing cogs. It gets a fully adjustable Showa USD fork at the front and a fully adjustable Ohlins dual shock at the rear. Although, both the variants get the same suspension setup, the XE, being more off-road focused, has 50mm of more suspension travel than the XC. Both are equipped with the same brake setup as well – dual 320mm discs at the front and a single 255mm disc at the rear.

There are six riding modes on offer. But where modes such as Road, Rain, Off-Road, Sport are common between both the variants, the XE gets the Off-Road Pro mode, which turns off the ABS and the traction control. Other features which are exclusive to XE are cornering ABS, automatic traction control and an inertial measurement unit (this unit measures the lean angle of the motorcycle, acceleration and stuff like that).

There’s still no word from Triumph about when it will launch the new Scrambler 1200 in India, but we expect it to come to our shores by the first half of 2019.
