Steemit Referral Program?

I know that this subject has come up many times, but when I google search for "Steemit referral program" all I find is a bunch of old posts on Steemit with people asking if there is a program. I never found an answer as to whether or not there will ever be one.

So this is the way I am thinking, and what lead me here to write this.

Everyone on this website wants Steem to rise in price, don't they? Everyone that invests time, believes their time is worth something and that's one of the most beautiful aspects of Steemit, that we are actually rewarded for our time spent and we are rewarded for our content creation without a thief middle man.

If we want the price of Steem to rise, then we definitely want new users, right? That's why various people here on Steemit have been spending money use Pay Per Click services with Google, Bing, and various social media platforms. They believe in Steemit, they are trying to spread the word because they know that more interest is in the best interest of all of us. Especially as we see bitcoin going to new highs.(I know the price is currently down, but we have seen this already in the last couple weeks.)

Could you imagine what a referral program would do for Steemit? I understand that it is not as easy as "just code it and implement it." But wow, it would be amazing to see a program. I know Steemit is already growing fast, and I hear people that believe Steem will be 10$/each by the end of the year, and that may be. I honestly believe that a referral program is almost like hiring a marketing team, but the company doesn't have to pay to employ them in this case. A very small percentage of rewards could go to an upline referrer, costing 0$ more than what is spent now. And the effects on the rewards for the content creator, would be negligible. But the rewards for the referrer who referred 500 new people that are active, his rewards would be substantial.

I am a self taught internet marketer. I watched Youtube videos, dissected the information put in front of me, reverse engineered it, and I learned how to promote things and put it in front of people that have already told you they are interested in what you got. In this case, through the use of social media and forums, much of the world has proclaimed there interest in spending time on these platforms. The potential for Steemit is MASSIVE, even without a referral program. With a referral program, it's hard to say how much the word would spread but I imagine that it would grow exponentially and servers wouldn't be able to take it.

I love Steemit, I believe it it, I think it will succeed and go far. I understand that referring others right now builds the community, it makes it larger, and that helps everyone. But if people were given even more incentive to invite others and inform them how things were, I think we would see even more massive growth here, and that's a WIN for EVERYONE!

Sorry if this has been discussed/answered and I missed the post or can't find it. It turns out there is already A LOT of posts being made! :P

Please no! Referral programs are for scams! Give the rewards to content.

vis-a-vis my comment above, sounds like we're coming from about the same place! lol

Any thoughts on limited referral invites attained via very specific milestones/achievements? Presumably, these invites cannot be "bought".

Actually, this is a problem STEEMIT already has now, without any kind of "referral" service. There's supposedly a 50,000+ account backlog that's been trying to work it's way through the queue!

I tend to think these referral services are more of a deterrent in the long run. It's also one of the problems I (and apparently many others) had with bitshares / openledger as well, as evidenced from the following thread: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,23691.15.html

Thank you for sharing this information! The more you know, the more you know! It's not surprising there is such a backlog!

apologize for all the link drops, but thought you may appreciate this one as well! lol

We have been experiencing a massive increase in user growth with over 10,000 new accounts last week alone.

No problem! You may also want to check out @timcliff's post, and our comment thread therein on the subject that starts with this:

I think there's such a huge influx of new users that they're trying to cut down where they can. for example, I recently got my mom to sign up and she was delegated around 150SP.

However, yesterday it was reduced down to like 4SP which quickly hit the bandwidth limits. @timcliff got them to set it back to 9, so I guess we'll see if that's enough to solve it (well, for now at least).

Yes, we need a huge plug for steemit. Maybe is a celebrity mentioned it or it was featured on some YouTube channels more people will understand....I think I'll make a small advertisement video on YouTube and everyone should spread it around.

Well that's part of the irony here. Right now, many of the biggest "advertisers" for Steemit are people that already have large followings on other social medias. There are Youtubers that make videos about Steemit, then post them on Steemit and make money here from votes, but they are also making money on Youtube. Now personally, I believe since these people with large followings are doing such a great deed for the future of Steemit, they should be rewarded slightly but getting a very small percentage of any rewards their downline gets. Could you imagine how many people the @dollarvigilante has referred? And although he has made good money from his content creation, there would be even more incentive to promote Steemit with a referral reward. Best of luck with your Youtube Ad!

I would love to have an opportunity to engage in a referral program. I am a 4th generation steemer in the last 48 hours...friend to friend to friend...to friend....It would be awesome!
