@steevc mentioned this topic yesterday and created a new tag, #AdoptAPlankton. I think it’s a great idea and I would like to announce my plankton and welcome her to Steemit.
So my plankton is the person in the title. Just so you are aware the loose definition of plankton on Steemit is anyone who doesn’t yet have the vote slider, or has less than 1 Million Vests or roughly 500SP (Steem Power)
I for one remember only too well joining Steemit, knowing absolutely nobody and having TWO posts that generated a big fat $0.00. One of them, I put a lot of work into and I would really wish this on nobody.
For somebody new on this platform, it really is daunting. This entire experiment is loosely based on anarchy and you can do whatever you like, but you must face the consequences of your behaviour.
I can see my adoptee has already had a run in with @steemcleaners but I’m quite confident it was due to ignorance and nothing else. Also this was in August 2017, there appears to have been a large lapse where nothing has happened and this is her second ‘crack’ at Steemit.
I’m not asking every non-plankton to follow my lead, but just think back to when you started and how you felt after you had that $0.00. I’m betting that you all have had at least one of these unless you were extremely fortunate.
^^ The Bad days and my $0.00 times ^^
Any plankton that is new and wants to grow needs to put the effort it. Respond to comments, go check other’s blogs, vote on their content, comment on their content, rinse and repeat, be relentless if you want to speed things up, but be genuine as people will recognise sycophantic behaviour.
Also don’t ever let your voting power get to 100% as this is just wasteful. You can check your voting power using a multitude of tools but I use this one: https://steemworld.org/@jenniferbailey
Check the top left corner of the screen. If its 100% then you need to get voting or your voting power will be wasted!
If you vote my content up, and I think you are NOT commenting for the sake of it, I almost guarantee I will respond and/or I will vote your comment up. I’m not saying everyone is like that, but I am.
So back to @jenniferbailey, she is from the UK, appears to be a reviewer of products and has her own website at http://www.jenniferbaileyonline.com/., as well as a YouTube channel.
She appears to be a motivated person as well as a motivator and has a love for cats. Why not show her some support and give her blog a visit.
I will be sponsoring @jenniferbailey into the Steem Basic Income program (@steembasicincome), giving her a few juicy votes and sending 1SBD to get her going on Dust Sweeper as they have recently started this gift incentive., as well as adding her to the @chops.support account which will give another vote once per day for as long as it exists.
A short synopsis of these is that Steem Basic Income gives you a vote for life on EVERY post you make while Dust Sweeper gives you Author Rewards that would otherwise be lost.
Jennifer, you can read about Dust Sweeper here and Steem Basic Income here
I wish all the best for you on the Steemit platform, don’t give up, keep posting, keep up-voting other’s work, if you can invest real money into Steemit with STEEM and recognition will come with time.

If you found this article so invigorating that you are now a positively googly-eyed, drooling lunatic with dripping saliva or even if you liked it just a bit, then please upvote, comment, resteem, engage me or all of these things.
"Adopt a plankton" is really a great opportunity to know interesting new people to follow! Thanks to share with us the Jennifer's profile, she looks really an interesting steemians! Followed! ^_^

Thanks @silviabeneforti, I liked her #introduceyourself post and the cats one. I do wade through the #introduceyourself posts from time to time in search of anything that stands out.
If this platform is to grow we need to support these new people until they get going.

I hope some others will take this up. It takes time to build up an account, but we can give some people a boost that may encourage them to stick with it.

I'd also be willing to look into supporting someone, though it would be very difficult to choose one person over another.

It can be more than one if you like. There's no rules for this. I plan to support others over time

I already have a few, and after I started using steemvoter it has actually been possible for me to be a little consistent. It is boring but I think I can help better that way.

It does take time, I'm still building! Hope she sticks with it, we can only try to encourage and motivate.

What a great idea! I actually have a couple of excellent plankton in mind - I'd been planning to give them some SteemBasicIncome, but I haven't got round to it, as I've been away for a few days without internet connection.
I am a plankton myself of course, but my posts generally make a few cents at least, and if I hadn't naively powered down around Christmas time I would be a minnow.
I do remember those days of $0 - very disheartening after I'd worked hard on a post, but when compared to the results of some of the blog posts I've posted in the conventional blogosphere over the years, Steemit wins hands down!

Good effort to assist more people battling to grow, in a down and out market at the moment in crypto @slobberchops
Agree with taking the right approach, too many think....
Whilst this is blogging combined with social media, when did the word Social slip out and hit the 'upvote' button and run appear.
Will share this, it is something we have all experienced along the road in Steemit.

A great idea by a great guy @steevc, As soon as I know a bit more about the operations on steemit, we will also give it a go! At the moment I do two things; Post quality and hope. Blessings and upvoted! @slobberchops

@jenniferbailey is a very lucky steemian!
And @slobberchops is very generous.
Yes, being a plankton is not easy and the vast majority of us is quitting before we have the chance to have the steemit experience.
And that is unfortunately.

@nexit, you only get back what you put in Steemit. I had a look on your blog and what I see is 'Find the Missing Number Contest'.
Try some different topics, and you will gain a wider audience. I'm not criticising your work but I have found via experience that contests don't draw many people or voters even if you are giving away SBD.

They are generally in London, which is bad for me but I went to one in Birmingham a few months ago when I first started. They are invaluable for making that connection with people.

@slobberchops thank you so much for adopting me! It is great ti she that I am already getting some comments and votes from your followers. You have really inspired me to keep writing.
I really wasn't sure what it was that Steemians would like to read so I randomly posted what was on my mind hoping that I would strike a cord.
I did get into a wee bit of trouble in the beginning but have picked myself and moved on. It is all a learning curve but I am enjoying the journey :)

Your welcome! The only way this platform can work is to support others, and reciprocate. Just write about anything, its not so serious, I enjoyed your cat on the roof post as I have been there.
Go out and find others' that share your interest and interact with them. Some may look at your thin wallet and decide to not bother responding, while others wont care about such things and will engage.
Money makes people react differently to a non-reward platform, and you will need to find the latter type of person who's interested in what you write and not the reward they may or may not get from you.
I write about all these things..
.. amongst others. There's a lot to learn, but within a month of being here most of it will have sunk in.

Ah no,, 100% is bad, but between 95% and 100% is good. Just don't let it recharge fully. I try and keep mine above 80%, but it regularly goes under.

It's a pretty cool idea, congrats to you. I really like how you invest into the platform by using various tools: your chops support account, the dust protection, SBI, the comment upvotes! 👍
In some 120SP, I'll have the magic slider and consider looking out for a plankton to adopt 😉
