Quantity is not Quality

Steemit is rapidly evolving. We're up to 50,000 users now. It's amazing and exciting. On average, a thousand new users join this site daily. Wow! I'm sure they'll bring us all sorts of new publicity, value and insights on an untold scale. And I'm terrified of that.

Less is More

As more people join, more content will be made. More of it will be of a great quality. It might even be of tremendous quality. Perhaps the next Einstein or Newton will first share his inventions on Steemit! And that scares me. Because I might miss it. As the volume of posts increase, so too does my inability to read them all. The average post on Steemit takes around 5 minutes to read. With a volume of 50,000 users, even just a single post by each of them would take 250,000 minutes or 173 days to read. Wow!

That brings me to the subtitle. The current niche for Steemit is long and lengthy blog posts, that go very in depth toward their subject. This is great for a smaller network, or a dedicated group of friends that exchange information, but in the current form of Steemit the quantity becomes simply overwhelming.

If we are to Become Experts, we must Embrace Simplicity.

I believe the current phase of long winded and in-depth Steemit posts will draw to an end, the more mainstream Steemit becomes - and that's just fine! The internet is a place where everything and everyone competes for our attention. From clickbait to formatting, it's all designed to capture our minds. The longwindedness of a post risks losing that attention to boredom or overstimulation. Simpler and shorter posts will lead to a greater amount of information being spread around, even if their volume in words and ideas becomes shorter. Great ideas condensed into small containers will become the calling cards of our network, and our greatest value compounder.

How do you see the future of the network and the evolution of the content that brings its value? Dicuss it in the comments section below, I'd love to see your ideas! As always, for more great content, subscribe to my blog @spookypooky!

I'm currently in that "long-winded, story telling" category on Steemit. Sure there will be posts focused on memes and "top 10" lists, and posts will definitely need to become simpler to attract a large audience, but to me Steemit will always be a place where artists' share their work and progress whether it's simple or complex or whether it becomes popular or not. That's why I love it and that's why I'm staying.

Amazing post yes the great users will be recognized

New users are going to struggle to be successful, so they will learn quickly that they will not succeed without good content. Even if you have good content there is a good chance you'll be drowned out. I still haven't learn what it takes to make money. I have earned a couple of dollars, but nothing to brag about. I try to provide quality content, but I think I'll stick around and keep posting for a while. See how it goes.

When writing; less is more.

Keep on truckin' and keep it simple, you'll get there!

Good observation! Yeah something has to change with the format. But what it will be who knows. Imagine 1 million users trying to post at the same time. Im sure these things will have to change...

It'll be rush hour for the devs i'm sure

I'm terrible about writing lengthy posts on other sites and forums. With Steemit, I'm working on trying to write one-page short stories that have a hook to try to flex my creative muscle. It's hard when you're used to writing Tolkien-esque descriptions of the details of a leaf carving on an archway spanning several pages.

I think there's room for everyone and everything. What needs to change as we prepare to leave beta is an interface change. As it stands it becomes difficult to follow people you've chosen to. It would really make it far more easier for people with that a simple change. Have 'Followed' be the default listing when logging in. It will allow a lot of these new users, coming in to view/vote for ___ a lot easier

Yeah, small community building is going to be essential, moving forward.
