Calling Opinions : Steemit a Money making platform or Community development ??

Every Opinion Counts ...Dear Steemians..... To have a better understanding about Steemit , I went on to explore and took a deep dive into Steemit White Paper. Although, I am not able to complete the entire white paper, still few of the basic points in starting catch my eye and made me to think upon something. Exploration always leads to some important finding.

Let’s first start to know few basic things from the white paper: As we all know, Steemit is a decentralized platform, on Steem block chain. The White paper give a very simple definition on the first page.

Steem is a blockchain database that supports community building and social interaction with cryptocurrency rewards.

So, the basic purpose of Steemit that I understood from the above phrase is to build solid Community along the Steem blockchain. The community means a group of people, who are like minded and help in developing mutual understanding, through continuous social interaction over the social platform, called Steemit.

On flipping and moving on the other page, I came across another important point that was highlighted on the White paper, It says:

Steem is designed around a relatively simple concept: everyone’s meaningful contribution to the community should be recognised for the value it adds.

Contribution refers to sharing some meaningful content through posts or meaningful comments on post. Such comments are rewarded and incentivisised. That reward will come thought one vote one person, and the reward value depends upon the Steem Power that the Voting account held. The rewards or the incentive that you will get on the contribution.

Steemit is an open source platform, where people can get to build a community and share their thought or information. If we sum up the two above quoted basic points, then it further adds that every meaning full contribution will get rewarded through voting’s. These rewards will get accumulated and the creator will get benefited.

However, nowadays I feel, Steem is straying from the basic theory and started to be seen as a Money-making rather than Community Development platform. The people are more interested in chasing money than building a beautiful community.

The Steem Blockchain rewards scheme are swayed the people ideology towards another source of earning money.
Well, I am not saying just like that, If there is smoke there is fire I have certain observation that make me write the post and wanted to take some feedback.

Here are some of the points that I started to note lately:

  • Use of Bid-Bots, even on no sense post. A single pic can get you 100$
  • Upvoting own comments having high SP- just to get self reward. - Already write a post on it
  • Nonsense posting on Dmania, and making it to the Trending page to get Dmania upvotes. to get rewards
  • The number of Bid bots in the Steemit Bot tracker have increased from few to many numbers. - Total 91 Bit-bots are available
  • Every new Steemit user, interested in building own Bots, to make more profits.

Well, I am not against earning more, Earning money is everyone motto. Who do not want to earn money?? In race of earning more and more, people more often cross many limits.

My concern, is why to forget the main motto for which the Steemit is developed.??

Steem/Steemit is not demanding platform, they only ask the user to make community of mutual understanding and like minded people, to grow and to share knowledge. Cant we stick to the basics and earn fair rewards? Can everything be turned into a money making hub???

In other context, If users get more interested in making money, then there are chances that the platform survive for long term. The rewards can also be earned by making Quality Contribution.which Steemit always strive for.

If we need to make Steem a familiar name and make it to moon, then must stick to the Roots.

Discliamer: These all are my personal Opinions. Looking and experiencing few stuffs, made me to write such post. I would welcome any open minded views on my post. May be I am wrong in my understanding. Please put your valuable views on comment section of the post.

I think anytime there is a money component/earning potential it encourages people to employ less than ideal (sometimes shady) practices to increase their earnings. Sure their intentions are good (to earn more for their content), however, greed can drive people to do things they might not otherwise do. I've only been on the site for a day, and I have to agree with some of the other commenters that quality content is hard to come by on the site. One could say quality content should offer better rewards, but then, how do you not only define what that quality is but also, who gets to decide? I do agree that the earnings issues will have to be addressed to make it fair for all. But then again, is there ever a system that is truly fair to all?

I do not use bidbots myself and would be happy if they disappeared, but that said I can understand people using them when they exist.

I am sticking to my principles and posting and interacting with people and not focusing on the income

@tottoodjay agree, people need to change the mentality to make Steemit more popular...Money is not the only source of getting people in here.

91 bid-bots too many in my opinion. Unfortunately when there is money involved, the greed factor kicks into high gear. Using and abusing the system.

@jlsplatts 91 that what i counted on steembot tracket....there may be many more....not sure..

It wouldn’t surprise me if there is more.

It's disappointing when in initial stages no income in post which made by giving so much efforts.

Some small investment works as gear to speed....

Like in my case I will say I invested 2 sbd. Before that my income was 0.148

It helps me make my post highlighted. Which eventually draws much attention.

So there are some benefits also to use bidbots.

@sherbanu Steemit is about community development,This can be possible by good comment and by interacting to people.

Yes it's true. But honestly speaking, my interest grows when there was little bit earning . It pushes me to involve more that gradually brings to me the community efforts benefits.

But if there would be no outcome it's hopeless in some cases sometimes that don't triggers our learning desires.

But it's undeniable fact that lots of value of commenting and interacting.

But may be would not be come so far knowing people if not driven by the rewards get after investing.

It's my point of view.

very true what you say. It's hard to say how this will be fixed or derailed into being a more of a community builder than money making platform... I still think is kinda chaotic in here, even if you want to look for quality content, is very difficult to find it sometimes

@cobmaximus getting very chaotic with people coming in with monay making motto...the basics of Steemit is getting lost.

Using bid-bot is good and it's not good at the same time, people use bid-bot for different reasons, some are using it just to increase their reputation while some people use it to make profit. some good contents out there are not appreciate enough, and the contents creator may decide to use bid-bot to get people's attention. am not saying using bid-bot is good or bad, but if at all u want to use it, use it in appropriate way. And note this, at the end of the day, u may loose and you may gain. Thanks for sharing @steemflow

@youngboss good to see your insight on the post. Apart from bid bots people are more focus on generating more money rather than creating quality content

This is a very insightful piece

What I see here is that politics has taken over steemit and those who know how to play their cards well reap bountifully... The term "try to be creative" now seems like an hoax

People are becoming greedier day by day.. Steemit is not about how creative you are but how smart

But what can we do? That's the way it is and that's the way it's going to be

Pretty much true....but the number of quality content appreciator is less as ...the gree has taken over completelly if i notived it correctly..which is not good for Steemit future.....it is not about creativity, but how you make the bigger people happy
