Some thoughts for those new to Steemit

I have been active in steemit chat and on twitter recently and am seeing many new people joining steemit so this post is for you. I am not one to give advice often but I think some of these suggestion and concepts may come in handy.

Due diligence

First off do your own due diligence and look information up and try to answer your own questions first. Lots of people who join want to treat other people on steem like its their job to teach noobs. Many of us dont mind helping but we know the difference between someone who has a question and someone who wants us to answer all their questions. you come off as lazy to me if you dont take practical first steps like reading the white paper/blue paper and checking into the information first.

High Expectations

Another common mistake is thinking you are going to make a post and its going to be so awesome that people are just going to upvote it like crazy, but when that doesnt happen they get very bitter like the system is broken because they think their post is worth so much more than others. It takes time to grow a following and it takes effort. Treat steem as a long term investment and build it, dont expect to make money instantly and pay your bills with it. Think 2 years down the line and invest in steem and steemit and power up your account so your vote is worth more and you can help others.

Its social!

Steemit is a "social" network that means you have to be social, its not all about you. Look at other blogs and read and comment and put some effort into getting noticed. Try going in steemit chat or discord and having some conversations or even on twitter. When I first got to steemit I went in chat for a week and talked to people about just general things. Then when I joined I commented on posts for a week and then I finally made my first post. In order for people to really notice your posts you have to gain followers, leaving good comments is one of the keys to getting people to follow you and check out your work.

Patience

Be prepared to have patience! make up your mind from the start you are going to be patient. Know that many of your posts may not even get a response or an upvote, thats just the way it is. If you are looking for instant success you are looking in the wrong place. You slowly but surely will start to gather followers who like your content and your social network will grow. Be ready to put the work in and dont expect instant rewards.

Dont whine

No one likes a complainer! Its such a bore to hear noobs complain about a site they have been on for a week. If you joined a social network then complain it rubs people the wrong way and makes you look foolish for not knowing what you were getting into. I think facebook is stupid, hence I am not there complaining about it. If you want to whine and complain please just leave and spare us your nonsense.

There's no place online or offline where you're going to find instant success, so I'm baffled that people come here thinking they'll be replacing their jobs with blogging here are a few weeks. They are obviously missing the bigger picture.

All of what you say is true, and while Steemit IS a blogging platform, it is far more about what you give to others than what you can get. In short, it's a community, and you need to become a part of that community if you want to flourish.

Yea that really does happen a lot doesnt it ? I keep noticing that and think it takes effort to be successful anywhere so why should this be different!

Lol, do people actually think they'll generate income just as soon as they make ground fall on Steemit?

Patience, a virtue needed by many and had by few.

I've met some awesome people through this platform, but I think that people are turned away from socializing because of how [sarcasm] hard it is to download discord and join groups[/sarcasm]

I've said it before and I'll say it again, simple comments don't cut it. Seriously, strike up a conversation, acknowledge that you actually read the post and understood it.

Great point on the content of the actual comment. I get so many cut and paste comments and think why dont you put some effort in and actual get a response or contribute. I almost always upvote decent comments in my posts so they are missing out on upvotes as well. Thanks for taking time to comment and reminds me to check out your blog.

I haven't posted anything in awhile. I feel as if my creativity has taken a nap, and my self criticism has taken it's place. Bleh.

If you joined a social network then complain it rubs people the wrong way and makes you look foolish for not knowing what you were getting into.

Exactly!

If you want to whine and complain please just leave and spare us your nonsense.

I am glad I skipped the TL:DR and read the last line only.

Thats all anyone needs :)

I agree with everything you say, I joined Steemit a year ago, but did nothing as I did not understand the Crypto side of this platform. So i joined Niume.com blog website instead. However Niume went offline before Xmas, so I was forced to find an alternative platform! So I returned here, and very glad that i did, as now I believe Steemit to have a far greater potential than Niume ever did 😀👍

Retweeted you on Twitter √√√√

Don't bother going on from 8am to 4pm EST lol

Thanks for this advice. Really motivating. Today my posts earned 22 cents and I know if I create interesting drawings and generously comment on similar blogs, eventually good things start happening to me. It's already happening: a 10X increase in earnings! from yesterday.

Thanks for sharing @steemitadventure.

This is really helpful.

ReSteemed and Followed you.

this is good at can really help

All really good advice. I actually ran into the same problem when I first got on steemit. I saw how @guerrint got $20k on her makeup post and was like I can't compete with that and didn't use the platform for almost a year. Then I posted a song and it got me $50 and I was like there is something there. Once you stop caring about the money then the money will come!!!

Thank you for the post :)
I guess the one point summary would be be consistent in your blog; content creativeness and be social with other steemitians and interact with them and sooner or later we will get there :)

Thanks for the suggestions @steemitadventure...
Indeed,patience is a virtue.
More Power and GOD BLESS!

Thank you for the suggestions, I have just started on steemit sphere! Looking forward to engage and learn.
