What are Witnesses? with @pharesim - Steem Smart Podcast Ep. 5

in steemit •  8 years ago  (edited)

@pharesim dropped a ton of deep Steem insights on us — topics included assassinations, wealth redistribution, exponential growth and more!

Stephen Polsky ( @shneakysquirrel ), Gabriel Scheare ( @piedpiper) and George Donnelly ( @georgedonnelly ) interviewed #3 witness Michael ( @pharesim ) and entrepreneur Travis Boyd ( @daowisp ) about what witnesses do for the Steem network and how the distribution of wealth in the Steem network will be changing in the near future.

Thanks a lot for your commitment, guys! Very informative and helpful video!

Glad you found it useful. We've got more episodes coming soon!

Thanks for having me and asking awesome question! I enjoyed that afternoon a lot :)

It was our pleasure! Thanks again and I hope you'll join us again for another show sometime soon.

Hello sir @pharesim, can i ask you here if its alright with you. I want to understand the responsibility of the witnesses. I heard them but i dont know about their job, would you mine?

That's why he did the interview. Have you had a chance to watch the video? Because that basically answers your question.

I wanted to but Im on mobile, have to watch it later

Also, for anyone wanting to vote for witnesses, here's the link to do so:
https://steemit.com/~witnesses

I know I felt very motivated to vote for some witnesses after learning more about their work. It's apparent that the health of this system is dependent upon who the witnesses are....

I am wondering what you will ask me. Also, is it just you and I or will there be other people too?

It will be us three (George, Stephen, and Gabriel). I tend to come up with questions on the spot, based on the way the conversation is going.

A question I like to poke at is: What/how you see the future of the platform developing, and how to ensure the integrity of some of the less controllable systems (tribalism getting people to vote for people, not products).

if you're ever on th elookout for anyone who is not SUPER succesful but doing as much good as possible, i'd love to be on it :)

Can you email me? My email is above, at the end of the article. We'll set something up. You have to have a quality webcam, mic and internet connection tho.

Your episode will be mostly about creating good content but we could come up with any old craaaaazy question, you never know... :D

I loved hearing from @pharesim. There's something about the way he speaks that is both assuring and informative. Great video.

Thanks! Indeed, he is quiet but speaks with authority.

Listening to him speak made a lot of ridiculous fears vanish. The sound of logic does that frequently. It is for these reasons that I listen to Nikola Tesla's book, My Inventions on audiobook every week or so. It functions like a mental reset, removing fear and replacing it with sound logic.

Interesting. The Fountainhead or Star Wars Episode 4 serve that function for me.

that's a great movie! weird but wow.

I liked hearing him talk as well and was especially interested in the part about value declining for inactive users. Anyone relying solely on the autocaptioning, however, may have been confused, but I found it totally fascinating--it's about 'bitches,' 'need a hard fu*#,' 'ghetto,' 'mad woman,' 'you get compensated for that delusion,' and 'roughly terrorist.' There were also mentions of cows, a huge steak, steamed rice, and caramel. I didn't know if I had wandered over to cooking, fiction, or the NSFW section. I guess computers aren't quite ready to take over.

Good information. @pharesim inspired me to go vote for him and some other witnesses. I had only voted for one prior to this.

Very good information.

Thanks for doing this guys, witnesses are a very under covered topic.

Also I wish my beard was as glorious as @pharesim's :)

Edit - woot! Thanks for the mention @ ~13m there @daowisp

steemstats is the most awesome site :D

Great content, thanks for all this work!

the most fascinating part I learned is the fact that the ones who are active on the platform are the ones generating wealth, and those who are inactive will lose Steem Power, and wealth. By staying active, you are rewarded. This was a key point that I think very few people are aware of.

Isn't that exciting? Blew me away. And the content creators shall inherit the Earth STEEM!

But standing out will continue to be very difficult, and only the most persistent will gain traction I think.

I think you're right. It's very Darwinistic. You have a huge early mover advantage but I think there will still be advantages for people who start even today, compared to those who start, say, 6 months from now.

I believe the two most important skills you can have are: persistence and adaptability. I change strategy a lot. But the Secret Writer project is self-functioning now and I don't have to do any outside outreach. The secrets just come to me, every day. This is all tied into reputation. And I try to pay the writers either on the same day or the next, so that is something I am very professional about. Reputation scores mean everything when trust is involved. If I didn't have a high rep score, no one would send me their very personal secrets. It all works together.

I am excited that I get to pay people every day for their secrets. It's sort of a weird dream come true...........

This was a great episode, and super informative. I personally learned a whole lot while doing the episode :D

Awesome! Great information.

Ooh, you beat me to it. I was thinking I should do a video explaining what witnesses are. :)

I'm sure yours will include info lacking in ours. Would love to see it.

Was fun to chat with you guys, and hear what Michael had to say!
(also, this was me on 2 hours of sleep... ah, life at a 2-man ISP)

You were pretty out of it, definitely, LOL.

Once again I learned so much! Thanks again buddy! ;-)

Great conversation, I learned a lot, thanks! BTW, who were you guys talking about at the 19 minute mark? ;)

Hey I need a Bolivian passport, stat. And I've got 10 grand burning a hole in my pocket. What's your latest scam so I can throw my money away and then get told it wasn't your fault, it was all someone else's doing.

UPDATE: As a point of public record, Jeff contacted me and has promised to deliver absolutely every bit of information on Galt's Gulch Chile to me via email within 1-4 weeks.

In return, I will investigate GGC, interview the people involved (those who will speak to me) and write a long-form journalistic piece detailing what I have learned.

I look forward to the receipt of the complete information on GGC so that I can fulfill my side of the bargain with Jeff. If I receive incomplete or zero information, I will be unable to write the piece.

Nice show @steemsmart. It's educating. it's help understand steem witness and also bitshares.

wow amazgin one ;)

A linkback bot is a good idea. Trackbacks should really be in the site itself but for now this is useful.

I'm trying to unselect witnesses but it's not letting me.. Doesn't this affect the weight of your vote?

I don't think it does, no. What makes you think it might?

ok I was just curious. Thanks!

Thanks helpful always!! @pharesim upvote you for witnesses you are the best bro !!! 🔝🔝🔝
