Too much confusion! Thanks for the tip about partiko.
Not mad about the ads, they irritate me more than I thought they would.

The ads proved to be the prompt that finally got me to try out the Brave browser.
Brave is way better than Chrome, I'm sticking with it. And no ads for me.
What is worrying though is what the Brave Shield blocks on a steemit.com page....
Shields at 100% Captain...

Good and bad news, then?
Really, I think it needs to be as simple as possible for people. Learning to manage a wallet and a steem account is complicated enough without having to log in to multiple places, multiple times.

The extra credentials needed are a PITA, and I have needed to send my posting key to myself so I can do stuff at work again.
I would say it complicates things more that it should. The adverts... I can live with them, but am not a fan.

I haven't really had a problem with the ads, but I do think the wallet is klunky. It was much more intuitive when it was part of the same platform. That being said, I understand why they made the changes. I wish more platforms would start using keychain. That has been a really great addition to the login process.

thanks for the plug haha, Not to get off the point but calling this "beta mode" and having that moniker on the site is absurd at this stage. Steemit is fully functional to the general public and has been for three years. every other social media site make as many changes as often they just don't hide behind a "beta mode" crutch.
A year ago I got on here and pointed out simple obvious things that could easily be modified to ape the usability of more widely used sites...and those things haven't been touched. Instead we get hardforks that don;t affect the use for the average person and screwing with ads and the wallet.
How about trying to improve the user friendly-ness first so people have a more vested interest in hanging around if other changes go sideways later?
Whatever, ned can do what he wants with this thing, I have like five other social media sites and a website to manage.
It's also not lost on me that since I broke bad on ned that my interactions here have dropped off the table, I sincerely doubt it is because the normal 100-200 people who vote on my content gaf if I insult ned...that leaves the other possibility being that I've been quieted on the feed. Which is for me another reason to leave. I can here for the lack of ads, the un-manipulated newsfeed and no censorship. ...two of those reasons are gone.

I'd be very surprised if Ned cares what you say about him and filters you, but I do hope the team are taking feedback seriously. Others are saying they have given up on the Steemit site for alternatives, but it's still the first most people will find. It needs to be better than this.

Probably your are right, but I've been around more powerful people than ned and seen them do pettier things. Everyone is capable of acting like a two year old if it's the wrong day.
The only insight I have as far as steemit it is what I;ve seen over the course of a year...great community, shitty platform.

I always liked how easy Steemit was to use. I felt it was the perfect platform for people new to crypto. The incorporated wallet was a great feature, that took away a lot of the confusion. Crypto is far to complicated for the average person already. Many of us don't see that, and many would argue the point that it's not complicated. In order to see mainstream adoption, we need to over-simplify platforms and make ease of use the #1 priority. I know that ease of use and security don't always go hand in hand, but this is the direction we need to go in, and devs have to start taking that fact into consideration. There will come a day when dealing with crypto will be as simple as using Gmail. Till then, it's a race for simplicity. The crypto that comes up with the winning combination of ease of use, stability, and security will reap the rewards of mass adoption. We have to stop taking simple features and making them more complicated. It seems to be a trend industry wide.

They have some mention of how important the keys are, but they have to make it really simple to back them up. I've heard of numerous people losing their keys and those accounts are dead now.

Yeah, that is scary. Happens all the time I'm sure. I lost an account back before STEEM was listed on any exchanges. Key recovery is another issue that has to be resolved industry wide.

Great post and I'd disagree on one point. It needs to be MUCH better. What was a passable UX is now a mess.
The ads don't really concern me too much but I think they could have also gone for taking a small percentage instead if they'd had a better product.
The roll out again was amateurish and they should have been ready with keychain integration. Steem keychain is possibly the best development we have had here and I wish the rest of the DApps would integrate ASAP, especially now as its integral to Steem-Engine.
Sadly, Steem inc appear to be the weak link in the chain and it needs to improve rapidly to get more users on board.
Great post :-)

They have said they don't want to be the main Steem site and they seem to be going the right way to lose users, but I fear they will give up rather than use the alternatives. That said, the others are growing. Steemit tends to get the press attention and so it needs to at least handle the basics. I think it should provide links to others dapps in a prominent place.

I've just noticed the ads are targeted at me - things I've looked at, websites I've visited - rather than random. I'm even less keen on them now. Any minute Huel'll turn up!

Busy.org and Partiko are my go-to apps for the last few months. They both work great and I haven't even bothered to check out steemit.com in months because I don't need to. I haven't even checked out Steemit Wallet at all, yet. They just don't seem to be making good choices about anything lately.

I think the Wallet seperated from the site is a bad move, it is indeed confusing and the usability is decreased big time... To bad...

The wallet is shit. Why does every UPGRADE move steemit backward? Stop overthinking EVERYTHING just BE. If you really intend to GROW our beloved place here, STOP MAKING IT SO HARD TO DO! The RHETORIC about spam and other none sense doesn't even ad up.You could have created something for those signing up, but instead you stalled EVERYONES WALLET.... Stop trying so hard to impress with your ability to build dapps or whatever the fuck and EMBRACE THE PEOPLE.

Maybe in the long run it will turn out to be a good thing. But I don't think it was ready to roll out now. More testing should have been done first. And perhaps a bit more warning about needing other keys before they were unavailable to the casual user; I had just saved all mine offline a week or so previous so I got lucky that way.

I like the separate wallet and using the other keys. But I rarely use steemit at all now and have moved on to better dapps for the most part. My goal is to be off completely soon. Anyone who posts on steem needs to get used to and adapt to complexity. That is the nature of this nuthouse.

Things change and people always get pissed off. I'm not quite sure why people are angry at the change, but don't want that to deflect usership in any way. I guess people do need to know more about the other platforms if this makes it easier for them!
