Thanks for the reminder man!! Always good to go back to basics!! 😎

You mention several things here that need to be said and most likely over and over again by many different experienced Steemers!

I, like many others, now receive a high percentage of follow me follow you comments and that's definitely not what I'm looking for from this platform!

It seems we have to keep repeating these things as new people keep on signing up and making the same mistakes. I find lots of tag abuse in the introduction feed and see lots of spam comments. For some reason I don't get too many on my own posts. Steemit needs quality posts and comments to succeed. It should become a prime destination on the web.

This: "It seems we have to keep repeating these things as new people keep on signing up and making the same mistakes."

I'll likely make a post about it too so that we keep getting the point out there!

Thank you for this guidance.
I have only been here for a month, a month today in fact (woo-hoo!) so am trying to soak up knowledge from more experienced members.

Sure, my posts here are getting maybe 20 views and the upvotes I am getting are worth maybe 50c, but do you know what - that's ok. Because I am enjoying my time here and not just here chasing the dollar.

Anything I have set out to do in my life, I have started at the beginning, on the bottom rung of the ladder, and I have worked and strived and built my way up. This Steemit adventure is no different.

I've been here for a month. That's all. I cannot possibly hope to be successful yet, that's just crazy. Things worthwhile take time, effort and patience, so that's what I'm putting in.

In my short time here, I have already seen members saying "I am not succeeding here so I am quitting". And these are people who have been here less time than me! It's unbelievable.

Put the effort in, enjoy the journey and be happy. It's simple.

I've been active on steem for as long as you, one month, and have the same experience and attitude. I don't expect anything, just want to find interesting stuff and hopefully contribute with stuff that interests anyone.

We just need to keep on keeping on buddy.

Keep focusing on bumping up those views. 20 per post is actually not bad after a month, since traffic is pretty slow on Steemit at times.

If people are watching, engaging in your posts... and with the attitude and quality of this comment, I have no doubt you'll do great.

Thank you that's a really nice thing to say.
As a newbie to this whole site, you spend so much time worrying that you're doing the right thing and hoping to not do anything wrong.....

So for me to put how I am honestly feeling out there and then receive supportive posts like this telling me that hey, chill, actually I'm doing ok, it means a lot to me.

You have the right attitude. I hardly made anything in the first couple of months. The algorithms were different then, so it was harder to make money. I still had fun and I've made a lot of new friends.

Thank you. I am really enjoying my time here and have already found a few people that I am constantly looking to see when they write more!

true, very true!

The MONEY is not important to me yet, in fact, I have no idea or no accounts in place to do this Cash Out I see people talking about anyway. I'm more interested in creating a new, fresh group of people tbh.
P.S. I did look at some guides over the weekend for converting steem dollars et al. I thought this Poloniex was dodgy? It all looks very complicated to me anyway. :-D

It's not too hard to get something you can spend anywhere. I do it via a debit card that I top up with Bitcoin. It's working for me, but falling Steem and Bitcoin prices are not ideal at the moment

good advice ... for real newbies

Despite all the posts giving so much advice to newbies, we continue to see people abusing here and there! Got couple of them on my post, but same like you i given them some good advice and offer help if needed.
I think the non-serious ones will keep on like this until they have negative rep and quit finally!

I wrote this after seeing more tag abuse from a few people. They probably won't even see this, but I may be able to reach a few people.

Thank you for this post. Yes, it all has to be repeated over and over for the visibility. I was just on a post that was talking about some of the same issues. The statement there was made that the people who need to hear the message the most are the ones who won't bother to read the post. Unfortunately a very true statement.

I particularly like your comment about the introduceyourself tag. I am getting tired of seeing post after post by people with reputation levels in the high 40s and 50s using the introduceyourself tag to draw attention to themselves. It's just bad policy.

Despite all indications to the contrary, there are some new users coming online who want to make the best of Steem and all it has to offer. I hope to be one of those, not one of the other kind. Please don't judge us all by the actions of the follow4follow majority. LOL

Thanks for trying to get the message across. I hope a few minnows will abide by these lessons and grown from them!

Very good and concise.

I won't comment the dos and do nots. They are obvious but still ignored.

I will act on your last suggestion. Write in your own language. In fact I've already started.

And guess what? Under a 100% Slovenian post I get short comments in English telling me how great the post is and whether I would follow them 😃

i always keep these things in my mind the reputations number is something more than just a number here on steemit :)

This great advice can not be repeated often enough! Thanks so much for taking the time to write this, Steve.

Engage in discussions in comments. Get a conversation going and people may choose to check out your posts and follow you.

This is very important. Not only provides visibility, it also gives additional rewards. I usually get more rewards by comments than posts. Of course the comments should be relevant and provide additional info about the topic, otherwise the only thing they can provide is downvotes.

Loved these advices, even as I am an artist and works on the different images I find on the internet but as I use them to show and teach the others, I think it is fine to do it.

You need to be aware of the issues with copyright. Stealing the work of others should not earn you anything. If you are being creative then that's okay

I am not stealing anything, I am just creating the different effects and styles by combining the images and adding some filters and doing some color corrections.

I wasn't accusing you, just making a point. If you are posting original, creative work here then you deserve rewards

Ok got it dear. See some of my photo manipulations work and tell me how they are.

Yeah the rep is very impotrand. It attrackts the better upvoters and more honest and good content creators towards your posts.

Great advice! It's always good to write or repeat these advices for newbies, because too much times we watch bad and rude approach here.

I am glad that I read this. I t feels like so much content is being generated with an eye fixed only on the money. It can be disorienting in the beginning. Money should be the by-product while value-addition or just plain expressing oneself should be the first motivation.
Thanks for stating this so clearly..

There has to be value to earn a reward. It's not just what some call a 'circle jerk' ;)

Great advice @steevc i'm surprised to still see people copy and pasting comments.

We just have to try to educate them and deal with those who persist

Those are some good ADVICE
will definitely follow them for the greater good of mine

Now that folks is worth Gold, but only if you want to succeed here at Steemit!

Great tips!
Another a bit shady thing is not to "steal" a topic. It's hard to judge but sometimes you see multiple users posting on the same topic, where they probably read someone else's post first and then wrote about the same thing. Not always clear but the correct thing would be to comment on first post and resteem.

I don't mind people doing their own post, but they should link to the post that influenced them. We should give credit to people

Agree, a link to the post that inspired would suffice if one want to elaborate more than possible in a comment.

@steevc,
Very useful tips for the minnows from a big whale! That would be a great work! Thanks for sharing such useful tips!

Cheers~

I'm no whale :) I just have experience here

Stop being modest. :-P

thanks for info! very useful , @steevc
100% like and resteem

Thanks, but don't just fill your feed with re-steems. You need your own posts to be more visible. People will follow you for what you write. Once you have many more followers then your re-steems will have more value. As I have said to others, make your comments more personal (not just including my name) to have a conversation. Show you have read the post.

Awesome tips I will try to follow them, thank you

@steeve Very nice post. That will be a big eye opener to me and I hope to everyone else. I've been struggling for a while and I know this post of you can help me! thanks for sharing!

I'm happy to help. I want Steemit to be a better place.

Very fine post ... Congratulation bro
