I see something big for steem.
Using steem for everyday use like amazon purchase.
There are more than 1700+ crypto out there, steem meant for something way more than just trading.

That would be a good thing for BTC to lose its dominance and stay as an asset. If you have $15 worth of BTC , it makes no sense to move it around.

With its jump in price today steem has got off to a good start for the year.
I do very much think 2018 could be the year of steem.
I do think steem deserves, and will attain, a top 10 ranking again.
As you say, show me the use cases of most of those alt-coins above steem...
And did I mention the no fees and 3 second transaction time??
One of my 'themes' for my activity on steem is promoting 'SteemCommerce'. Since I published my first list of businesses accepting payment in steem I am getting more and more enquiries.

If my back of the envelopes are correct, on today's figures steem would need to get to $10 to break into the top 20.

Steems rank on coinmarketcap is a bit misleading in that people will beleive it is performing badly but market cap of crypto as a whole has gone through the roof as has Steems it should be an interesting 2018 and happy new year Steve.

It's possible you misread. In your wallet it states that SBD will always be worth about $1 worth of Steem, but the value of the SBD is not pegged at $1; there is no limit as to how high SBD can go. Speculators will always create a bubble, so while SBD will follow the general trend set by greed, there are far more folks that convert it to Steem and Steem Power. Right now the Minnows are hoarding their Steem to gain voting power, which I think is a good thing. I've also thought of supporting Steemians in economically troubled regions with my votes so I try to save a vote or 2 for the ones I know of. If everybody did that, such an effort may eventually make a difference. I know for many there will be a language barrier and Google translate is far from perfect, but don't be afraid to make mistakes; they will understand and if they don't they are not worth your time. True, but if you want a means of exchange that has greater stability is it wise to trade it amongst speculators? It's a double edged sword, we can make huge gains with the speculators, but we can also lose it all. So how do we stabilize something that's traded as a commodity and peg it at a set value? ..and value measured in what exactly? For me personally FIAT currency is not an option, we already have that, so how about KWh?

The Cryptoverse is crazy right now. It would be interesting to see bitcoin lose its dominance and I think it could. It's possible that all Alt-Coins are better than bitcoin technically except maybe in one aspect. The level of decentralization possible from a crypto whose creators are known.
One thing for sure, it will be an interesting ride!
