I agree. Leaving quality comments will get you far more rewards that micro-managing your VP levels. On a social network, being social always pays off!

It is totally true, with showing a bit of interest and reading the article you can earn much more than just commenting "good post"

Right on time. Funny enough, I have been sitting around the computer most part of yesterday and today with my team mate @hemangmehta to try and calculate this as we are working on a basic income project for the African Community. There is another great post by @offgridlife that I read. This website also helped a lot while doing my calculations https://www.steemnow.com/upvotecalc.html.

I like picking and choosing where I vote. Sometimes I go back later or the next day if I've run down too much. I'm guessing I use about half my votes on comments. The main thing is, I never let my voting power reach 100%, just in case. Wasted votes would be very aggravating. Individual votes may be small, but if there are lots of us voting, well, that will make a difference.

I just looked up in your wallet how much you have and it's pretty much in my range, which means, we're in the same pitiful situation :-)
As far as I know (and pls correct me if I'm wrong), there is a threshold from which on you can chose with how many percent you can make an upvote. Right now we can only make 100% ones, but later we can reduce the share and make 10 votes with 10% while losing the same power as before.
Here check out this site. In the top left corner you can see how much power you have left and under "VP ~> 100%" in "Stats" you learn how long it takes until you're back on top. That would be 28 hours for you :-)

busy.org gives you the slider right away @steevc. I agree, that right at the beginning there's no point in worrying about managing your vote since it is worth practically 0.
Now mine has grown a bit I manage it more carefully. I try not to drain my voting power more than it will recover by overnight. So I can start each day at 100%.
Since learning about the dust threshold I no longer vote on comments if I can't give them a minimum of 0.03c but with posts it doesn't matter so much.
I try and spread my vote around as much as possible but, in order to do that efficiently, I have to manage my voting power quite carefully.
It will be nice when I don't have to watch it so much but, for now, I enjoy making my votes count as much as possible! 😁

It seems you have to enable the slider in busy settings. I think new users have to learn to limit what they vote on. I don't expect a vote from them. I value their comments more, but they have to be relevant

In Busy.org you have to turn the option for the slider on, a great tip from @zoneboy Thanks.. This helps me divides my votingpower, really great. And I agree Steve, it's a waste to let it stand at 100%....

Last time I tried busy.org I didnt get the slider and was rather annoyed it did a 100% vote instead of what I actually wanted. If steemit is down, I use steemitstage now, as that seems to always work but the portraits are missing.
I know what you mean about wasting power, while I was away last weekend I wasted some as it reached 100%. We really need a mobile app that is good and works. Steepshot doesnt work on IOS, you cant post. Is that eSteem one any use? I havent tried it yet.

@slobberchops, try go to the settings. You will see enable slider. Just tick the box then you have the slider option. You can also set a default slider percentage so you have an automatic percentage when voting. @fabien did a good job in the site.

I think it's partly to reduce the number of tiny votes that have no real effect. A new user can save their votes for the best stuff. It's not essential to vote in everything

If you are not going to use it, then delegate to someone that can and will use it. Just vet that person or community well before you do so. I know that the veteran community can always use some delegations. Delegate To The "Humvee" Bot @shadow3scalpel or some to @mbc-meps. There are many can could but the voting power to good use.

I do delegate to a few people I trust and expect nothing in return. We need everyone to be voting. The whales have a lot of sway, but we can still have some influence

I have the opposite problem of voting to much and depleting my VP to a low level - cant wait to get to 500SP to get the slider for votes.
Went away over the weekend and came back and was a nice surprise to see my VP back up near 100%

As @steevc mentioned
using busy.org or @steem-plus is supposed to give you the slider. I can't test this as I have so much sp.
If you install the @steem-plus plugin, you will be able to control this even if you are below 500SP. Here is the link to their extention.By: @black-man

@steevc Voting power is like Time. You have to use it wisely. When you don't utilkse the VP it means.
This shouldn't be so.
Users can check their Voing power at steemd.com/@username
Steemnow.com/@username.
Just change the username to your account name

As I said, curation rewards should be less of a concern for newbies. Building connections is a better use of their time.

Yes. Curation is for users with more SP. Building connections and making friends should be newbies utmost priority, and resteeming one or two posts also help.

Mmh, voting power. I always see my voting power vaporize. In my actings I am a whale but my steem power disagrees with it!
Currently below 68%. Always glad to go to bed because my own energy and the voting power energy will be recharging.
The more active I am on the Steem blockchain the more it hurst my voring power.
For sure if I want want my vote to count and to surpass the dust threshold!
But yes on busy.org you do have the slider even when you don’t have more than 500SP!

How many reasons do you have in this post dear friend @hilarski, I totally share your words, many arrive thinking only about the money that can be earned, without thinking about the sacrifice and commitment that is being here.
Thank you very much for sharing these tips.

I like to use https://steemworld.org as it shows current voting power, delegations in and out, account operations and upcoming author and curation rewards. I also try not to get below 80, to be able to start upvoting again the next day at around 90/95%. Takes some math at first to establish a voting patern that works, so your VP doesn't drain too much. We upvote musicians using the tag #ftlob (and other music related content we come across) so it's important to be able to continue to upvote again the next day :-)
Great read and indeed, steem on!
