Why I do not like the Current School System - 1

The definition of school that I grew up with is "A school is where learning and teaching takes place". While that is true can I ask why the definition does not have or contain the reason why we go to school to learn?. I've grown and now I'm in the University but I've been seeing a lot of uselessness on some parts in the system called school.

Having a degree is an important criteria for landing a job and this was back in the 1930 - 1990s! Now I see graduates staying in shops and cafe doing jobs way lower than the value of their degree back in the 1930-1990. Why?? We will come to that soon enough.

My zeal for schooling has dwindled over the years but in the world where I'm in now... If you ain't got no degree... You're an illiterate even if you are way smarter than any of them will ever be... Hence I have to go for it.... Sadly. Here are some of the reasons why I see school as a waste of time.

It's outdated for this age

It was gold then. If you had a degree, getting a job was pretty easy. Schools were made to produce people who could work in companies and do a lot of paperworks for them... And there weren't many graduates then. the enviroment was saturated with employments that you could land a job as soon as you graduated. It was perfected and crafted for that age.. The age of "workers" as I'll call it. Schools were made to produce workers.. People who will do a thing in a particular way and forever like that.

It does not teach you to create jobs

I'll like to be challenged here. Is there any university that has thought you ways to start a company from having zero naira in your pocket to a million bucks?? No!! All we are taught are The legal procedures to establish a company. The system only creates people who are going to work for people who create jobs... they do not teach you to be an entrepreneur. Little wonder we have so many graduates looking for jobs all around. You can't blame them.. The process has taught them to look for jobs.

It doesn't allow you to help

Have you ever gotten punished for helping a friend out by supplying answers in a test? Have you ever been failed for letting a friend dub some answers from your homework?? What does this teach us?? That we are to help no one but ourselves to the high table where everything is beautiful. A man who is willing to climb uo the ladder of life but won't pull others with him will complain me crashing hard. What's the point of amassing a lot of needless knowledge and not being able to use it to help a friend pass through the exam??

**It's unequal **

Put a bird and a cheetah in the same race track and ask them to race on foot... The cheetah will excel! But ask them to race in flight... the bird will win. School puts a lot of pupils in a class (Children with different make ups and talents) and expects them to excel in the same exam. Some people are wired to love maths, some art, some science.... But children are forced to thrive where they can't. Its like asking a baboon and a fish to climb a tree. The baboon will win and the fish will be termed dull. This inequality makes these kids feel low about themselves and its disheartening. I was always good in arts in secondary school but I was put in the same class with people who had strength in other things and were lazy at art. When it came to maths, I always flunked... When it came to fine art.. I always shone... I felt inferior in maths.. others felt inferior in arts.... It's unequal.

I'll be wrapping up here and I'll be continuing this topic hopefully tomorrow. Please do drop your comments and additions. I'll appreciate it.

Current school system is like education bussiness. I'm strongly agree with you sir. Dear, @stephennevets Best wishes for you.

Exactly!!!! Its education business... I think I'll be putting that in the part 2!. It has all been commercialized.... I just feel sorry my kids will have to go through it. Thanks @siamul

After going through this post, I remember Education according to E.B castle (1965) was define as everything that happen to us from the day we are born to the day we die. To me, the formal education we are having now is only a mean to an end and not an end in itself....even our government is not encouraging .

Gardner (2000) explain that an individual may be strong or weak in one area but the ones he/she has strength dominate and characterize his/her behavior and may be determinant of occupation or career choice. Education this days did not study the individual innate ability, all we just get is the Bsc certificate.
