Instead of a NSFW tag, we need a rating system for posts

Instead of using the NSFW tag, the devs should consider a rating system:

Why would we want this?

  • a wider range of viewing and filtering posts; this would be an enhancement to the tag system, not a replacement
  • it sets the porn posts apart from simple posts discussing more adult subjects
  • it allows for people that cuss in their posts to feel safer about not using the NSFW tag where they don't think it fits
  • it makes it easier to find family oriented content

A Suggested Scheme

  • D - for Dirty, this would be for porn or blatantly sexual material
  • M - for Mature, this would be for discussion of sexually related discussion that isn't focused on titillation
  • S - for Serious, this would be for discussion of political or otherwise potentially divisive and/or offensive subjects
  • F- for Family, would be general interest and/or "wholesome" material
  • C- for Children, would be cartoons and media intended to share with children

The MPAA system

That rating sestem will possibly help foster the acceptance of a wider audience. I like your train of thought. As long as open parameters options still exist for users and are not subject to unwarranted censorship.

not subject to unwarranted censorship

censorship is going to be a problem as long as Steemers have the flag, and the subjective judgement in using it

OTOH, if we didn't have the flag, we'd be knee deep in spam and plagiarism

good idea!

Thanks for resteemed @knircky!! It's really interesting!! Great idea @stevescoins!!

I'm a little iffy on my suggested system(I think there is something missing), but it's a good start for discussion

and thank you for the ReSteem!

"D for Dirty" is hilarious. 😆 There is a lot of things the devs should do, but I just wish there was some place that we can see what sort of things are actually going on on the development front. Because sometimes I feel that they aren't doing ANYTHING new. 😕

Glad you liked that ;>

I don't keep up with the development discussion, so I can't say for certain what they are up to; I'll read them when they come across my feed, but I don't look for them

I'm just a DEU LOL

A DEU?? 😕 Where do you go to look up development updates? I might want to share important updates on twitter.

DEU = "Dumb End User" ;> That's me!

I'd do a search on the tag #development, but I don't know

The way I see it, as long as we are in Beta, there are going to be changes, and as an old geezer, I don't wnat to keep track of them. Once we stabilize to a final edition, i'll start looking at the nuts and bolts a little more closely

seems reasonable.
The only way it'll work is to make it easier to DO it than to NOT do it.
There's always someone who doesn't get the memo.

You are absolutely right! Hope to see more posts form you in the future.

It a Great Ideal
