Anyone else weirded out by all the creepy fake optimism in the comment sections? The gushing feedback? The smiling circlejerk of whale followers? Remember the rest of the internet where people get handed a bag of dicks every five seconds as a reminder that life is full of surprises? Think I've figured it all out.
Did you ever meet that person at work who puts on a bullshit mask and cheerfully kisses ass because they're making a paycheck and hoping for a raise? Of course you have, you might be that person - hell I've been that person, and it sucks. It's transparent, sycophantic, and neuters our healthy animal urge to piss all over everything.
You might be thinking this is just bitterness toward others' financial success, popularity, and original content when I've only made a few pennies reupping youtube videos. It isn't, I totally respect those doing well and being rewarded for it. Good for them, especially if this place is bringing them their first taste of financial payoff after years of networking and getting scraps for their effort. Guys, you deserve it, I mean that.
My irritation is coming from the gold rush mentality, this swarm of grinning hyenas following trending posts like day traders, riding coattails, and saying whatever uplifting motivational disingenuous shit that they can, secretly and not so secretly, hoping to get some of that sweet bitcoin. There's a very real financial incentive right now to eat blubbery whale ass and drive the popularity contest, and like any gold rush it'll dry up if most people are just here to hobknob for attention and "too good to be true" riches. They'll find it isn't going to happen, they'll get resentmentful, bored, and another bubble will pop.
Or hell, maybe the market will correct itself and heavily reward honest criticism, innovation, and walking one's own path over fueling egos. I have some hope for this place and that good ol' go-fuck-yourself pioneering spirit, I'm just anticipating a painful hangover after such an optimistic drunken party once everyone realizes they won't become millionaires here for liking posts and blowing the boss.
My advice if this is to be sustainable and you want to be happy on here, stop treating this like a paycheck. If you make money, cool - but don't expect it or post here as if each day is you getting snubbed out of the 'murican dream.
Now with that all out of the way, just wanted to remind you guys that I need about tree fiddy.
LOL!
I wonder what a character like Ru Paul, or someone else who doesn't give a rat's ass what people think would result in. :)
Your comment is really true, especially when it comes to the bigger whalesupported posts. And I concur, I think we will see a move towards a more honest way of dealing with Steemit. Now people are just new to this. I think after a while you'll see "FUCK YOU FUCKTARD!!!" and stuff like that prevalent throughout. It's in our nature... ;)

Good post, i found it a little difficult to read quickly though. I am constantly skimming content and appreciate easy to speed read articles. I agree with you too by the way. Cheers

Most certainly it will, as free as it is. Investors will notice they are paying for the cash-out escapades of one-hit-wonder introduceyourself posts and the kissing of cetacea posteriors, liquify their shares, the price drops, which leaves Steemit with those who are here for censorship-free and decentralized community building instead of some quick and easy cash.
I'd be interested in Steemit no less if max payouts were around 50$ and the price per Steem be ~ .1$. (1.5 would still be a bubble, IMO). So my advise, so far: lean back, enjoy the show, let the excitement subside, Steemit mature, Steem find an equilibrium and position yourself well for what will inevitably come: the next wave of Steemit excitement, when the 1,000,000th and 10,000,000th users open their accounts simply to get away from reddit and Facebook. They will try to orient themselves, browse the tags. Let them find your content and tell them how to follow you.
So far, all goes according to plan.
