Should I stay anonymous or should i declare my original name and photo in Steemit profile?

As a new #Steemit user, I am naive but sure candid enough to admit that I know very less about the platform.

I created my user id which more resembled my name, thinking that this will be another Linkedin or Facebook or xyz traditional type of platform. I have also added my own photograph which I felt should add credibility to my profile else fellow steemers might think my profile is a fake profile or spam profile.

And I started posting articles, thinking that this is more like a blogging platform. Honestly, I did not understand much and was still getting used to the Steemit lingo. I added photos of myself, food I ate and things which mattered to me.

I conveniently lost track of the most important thing about the platform.

Money.

Everything else is good and fine. Hunky dory. But the moment, money comes into picture and that too when my wallet is for everyone to see, my mind started contemplating the possibilities, the challenges. And that is when I thought because of this possibly, the network/platform does not ask you to give your demographic details and the level of details stored about someone is relatively less.

I could have asked some of the awesome folks at Steemit such as @sanjeevm & @klye and others but then thought that I should post all my apprehensions with everyone in this thread and then see what everyone thought about it.

So, this post of mine can surely help folks who are new to Steemit and also folks who have been on the network but did not pay this much attention. For folks who know the responses and can ward off my worries/fear as baseless, please feel free to answer me.

My post is based on my personal ignorance, curiosity, imagination, apprehension and nothing else.

Bitcoin has become 19000 USD in 7-8 years.

Steem might have an even better & steeper growth curve.

1 Steem today is around 1.3 USD. Assume in 2 years, Steem becomes 300 USD. By 2022, Steem reaches 1000 USD. By 2025, Steem reaches 10000 USD mark and by 2030, 1 Steem becomes 100000 USD and after that a comparison to dollar may not make any sense. What are the consequences?

We all will become rich, Filthy rich.

I get that buddy.

I am talking about consequences after that.

Imagine, you have some 5000 Steem today. In 12 years, you would have 500,000,000 USD. And not just you, all of the current members of the steemit community would be billionaires and even trillionaires based on what capital they currently have and what average upward slope the Steem Vs USD curve takes over these years.

In a normal world, the prices of the sugar we consume or the fuel we use or the house we stay in will vary as they have done in the past. So if you saw a 200% growth in the house prices or land prices or fuel prices in the past 10 years, and you expect something dramatic to happen, making those commodities real scarce in the future, they would see may be a 1000% growth in the next 12-13 years. So if you were able to buy a house for 300K USD today, it would cost you 3 Million USD. That still leaves you with little less than 500 Million USD. Bottomline - You would have earned more than what you need, you would be richer than what you would have imagined. Please imagine further as you please...and then come back to my next paragraph!

And since you have a lot of money already in the year 2030, you might not need to invest in the stock markets. You might not need to invest in futures or options or any trading instrument or investment strategy for that matter. Because we just saw that land and fuel which are the scarcest commodities today may not have given you that much return as you would have got from Steemit. All good till now.

Today, if you are a billionaire, you know you are a billionaire and people know you are, but they don't know how much money you really have and a lot of your activity is possibly being hidden or exposed selectively by your PR agency. Oh hell yeah, you would surely have a PR agency, a costly one at that, if you are a billionaire today.

If you are a 2030-Steemit-Billionaire, you are a normal person.

Okay, I take it back. You are more intelligent than others to have spotted this opportunity, and you are more gutsy than others to have taken the jump, and you are more optimistic than others to have stayed on and waited for your moment of glory. You are better than others. But my point is you may not have a PR agency of your own. Everything you have blogged on Steemit, will be for others to see. Your wallet, to the 5th decimal point will be known to everyone. Your photograph, your name, your details, your eating habits you have posted about, Your family you have posted about, your interests, likes, dislikes everything is bare out in the open.

What the F*** you might say.

If you said that in a sense which I can sniff as worry, buddy, that is the reason why may be Steemit does not focus on what your real name is and thus the network remains anonymous.

The network/platform has done its part. Now it is your turn.

As future billionaires, you would need to check what you are posting. Don't build a freaking Life timeline here. Share things which add value to fellow Steemians, without giving away your own identity. If you like to write about food, write about #food - don't add location into the post. If you love to write about #travel, write about travel and places without comparing them to your home town xyz. If you love to write about #life, write about it without giving lot of your pictures in there.. You get the drift. I am not suggesting what you should write.. All I am saying is, contribute your ideas, enrich others, get the kick of sharing valuable content without giving out all your details.

You don't want someone to pull down the curtain when you are enjoying your steem shower. Do you?

PS: This post is written with a good intent, that it can encourage a discussion and more and more folks joining in new into this community should read this.

That way, Together, we can build Steemit as a strong platform which not just makes money for people but also ensures they are safe.

What do you think?

Cheers
